Agreed. I think pretty much all of the QB/Ath types BG has recruited in recent years has started off listed at QB though. I suspect part the sales pitch during recruiting them is that we'll at least give you a look at QB and a chance to show what you can do there, before moving you to another position.

As long as Jovon Burkes is outside, I will wonder why Peter Winovich is listed as a QB and Joe Schaefer is occupying a redshirt. Just a personal preference there though.

I have similar thoughts regarding Dan Macon when you look at PJ/BJ and Raishaun Stover on the depth chart ahead of him.

I think the hope with Schaefer is to give him a year off to gain 20-30 lbs so he can play DE.

It looks like they listed all the incoming freshman at the same positions they were recruited at. Once they hit the field and start working out in earnest the coaches will have a better idea of where they want to slot guys.

Last year Dan Macon was goig to sit for a year, build some size and become a LB. Once they saw him in practice, the coaches saw fit to shift him back to RB. Who knows, maybe Winovich will wow them in practice and stay at QB.

I talked with one of my football friends about Macon in particular and said "Why isn't he a LB?" The answer was that the offensive coaches hoped to find a position for him and didn't want to give up on him yet, so they wouldn't release him for D.

That's exactly the type of mindset we need . . .

I think the kid's intentions play a role in that kind of stuff too. You can explain to them that a position switch would mean more playing time, but if they have their heart set on playing a spot, that's where they stay (or they get run off)

I'm not saying that's the case with Macon, but it does happen.

No Macon will never play TE. We don't need anymore mini TE's. I really think that Dibacco should be a fullback but we don't use one. TE are mainly helpful when there at least 6'3 or '6'4. Besides I've always thought that BG should use the TE's more anyway. Isn't RS/Soph Sean O'Drobinack like 6'4 and 250? Now thats a TE. Hope he gets to play this year. :)
