Opening day blunders...

What a great day for a football game and dedication to the Sebo center! Mens Chorus did a great job at the dedication! TG for the Win!

My opening day "fears" had been confirmed after listing to those people in my season ticket section... The stadium was not ready!

2 months ago I checked on the install of the turf and noticed the start of painting in the stadium. I thought at the time what a great facelift for the stadium from the dirty gray cement. It would look very nice and complete with the Sebo Center. My biggest fear was when I went to the Fall sports kickoff 4 weeks ago that the painting would not be ready for opening day. That was all confirmed as I walked to my seats.

1) My chairbacks as well as those sitting next to me (season ticket holders since '66) where not up or a shell of a chairback was in it's place rusting. I had to find someone in the ticket office to (45 minutes before game time) to get my seats corrected! And that took 15 minutes as I had to keep telling them my section, row, and seat. Another person who didn't have the chairbacks also complained and was told after they "fixed" it they would be invoiced for his inconvenience... Give me a break!
If you want Season tickets to be sold you should treat all season ticket holders the same way. I know the athletic dept didn't even collect the seats and store them after the 2006 season. So they sat out over the winter and spring to get weathered... waste of money...

2) The pre-game music was too loud! And then when we bring back the Falcon First down that was loud too! Did anybody check to see if the scoreboard sound would echo off the Sebo center...???

3) Bird poo everywhere! As I walked up the tunnel to my seat I can't remember when I've seen a dirtier area or half pained section.

4) How about hearing the computer over the scoreboard speakers.

5) Does the band have to wait until the 4th quarter to start playing different songs. I counted 5 new ones. Would have loved to heard them earlier to get the crowed pumped up.

6)"Sweet Caroline"... give me a break if that was to get the crowed pumped up for the 4th quarter it put me asleep! (Although the transisiton from the scoreboard to the band was nice...) How about "Roll out the barrel" or something like that. The Tuba's can still do their dance around in the endzone...
Who do you have to know to get on these game day committee's to make suggestions?

7) Good job of getting students back to the game and starting some new traditions. Many had been lost over the years. As I looked over the crowed I didn't see many doing them. Maybe you should show them on the scoreboard and people would pick up on them. It wouldn't be a bad idea to see Freddie, Frieda, or students doing then in a pre-recorded thing.

8) I noticed the west side was missing murals... what's up with that? (Althought I prefer the "old" falcon over the UGLY falcon any day. I guess that might have been my last chance to see it) Go away Ugly/Retail Falcon!

Overall a great day to have a game and a WIN.

Sure it was a great day...that's why you started a thread about the "blunders" and spent 99.4% of your post carping about stuff you didn't like...yep, I can tell you had fun!!

I suppose with 15,000 falcons, bird poo is inevitable. The first thing people want to see when they visit me from the US are sheep (people come and see me!). So I put everyone in a car and we go to the hills for some mild hiking to get among the hill flocks. The scenery never fails to impress, until you see what the sheep leave behind. It is just everywhere, and it spoils the entire experience.

At least you know what to expect the next time you visit owl country. Even messier than falcons, I'm told. It won't be any better at Toledo, for that matter. I don't care to speculate what Flash Gordon might leave behind, but I understand there are a couple of falcons in the UT clock tower who go about their morning business with perhaps rather more satisfaction than most.

Well I've been on here for a couple years now and regularly put up with crap from Falcons-I guess the university can put up with it from a couple of beauties who decided to matriculate there.

Seems like legitimate concerns and constructive in that some of those things can be fixed and might contribute to fans coming out. I know the GB is ancient and we have our share of things that make the experience less than what it could be (sound system, sight lines). I still have fun but would like to see some things changed there as well.

Funny thing about the band. We have two Drum Majors. One is great, the other is still learning. One does the first half, the other does the second. You can take that into account.

When you go to many of the "big" schools, particularly the Big 11 schools, the crowds LOVE their bands, and their bands play maybe six songs in the stands. At the MSU game this year it seemed like the only things they played were Let's Go State, the fight song, and the William Tell Overture. Everyone in the house loved it. At OSU all they play is La Regiment, The Hey song, the fight song, and hang on sloopy all day.

The only time the band gets to do anything different is between quarters and sometimes during time outs.

We also don't have much say in what is played now. The athletic/marketing/whoever department basically scripted the whole game for us.

I also have no idea what you're talking about with the Men's Chorus singing at the SEBO. It must have been a group of our alumni or something, the only game the actual chorus sings at is the homecoming game.

There was a group of about 10 guys which I assumed were from the Men's Chorus performing out in front of the Sebo before the game.

It was probably the Hee Bee BG's. They are a chamber group in the chorus. They have been pretty outstanding since last year.

At the MSU game this year it seemed like the only things they played were Let's Go State, the fight song, and the William Tell Overture. Everyone in the house loved it.

The Michigan State alumni band was in the second deck. At one point, they seemed to be playing the "Faygo Boat Song," which my dad thought was really cool.

All valid concerns...but let's give GC a chance to get a few games under his belt.

After years of doing nothing to promote attendance, the Athletic Dept is now trying new things and ways of doing things on game day.

Address the issues that need corrected and build on the positives of the first game at the "new" Doyt Perry Stadium. I had a blast...although I don't like noon kickoffs. Next Saturday evening should be even better...WKU is a decent football team and kickoff is 6pm...early forecast calls for mostly sunny and 71.

It WAS the Hee Bee BG's...and they did a "special" number honoring Bob Sebo...they did a great job and everyone enjoyed it...laughter reigned supreme is the best way I can put it.

I think that the opening game was great! Other than my sun burn on the right half of my face only, I wouldn't change a thing!

The band sounded great and I thought they played a lot! I would imagine their lips were numb by the end of the game.

Some of the new "traditions" didn't catch on, but it was the first game. If the students keep attending and are as lively in the future, then I think they'll succeed.

Can somebody tell me why "Sweet Caroline?" The Cleveland Cavaliers play it too. What is the signifigance of the song with regards to sports?

My season tix were fine. My son got his Falcon Kids Club shirt and membership card no problem.


Can't wait to see the Falcons level the Hilltoppers!

You ever been in a college bar when "Sweet Caroline" starts playing? It's just like "Don't Stop Believin'." It's one of those songs that has crossed generations and does something that not a lot of acts can do: get students to react.
