I will be the first one to say that I thought Greg Brandon had done a terrible job as a head coach over the last two years. With that being stated,
I have to give him some dues for the current success of BG football.
The swagger is back and we are back as a program. Whatever happened
over the Spring/Summer with our quarterback has been wonderful.
BG looks like the BG of old on offense. Nice job to GB and his staff.

Re: coach brandon
Let's not start praising him as a God just yet. Let's wait and see how we do in the MAC. We played a good game and beat a bad Minnesota team, we were way over matched at Michigan State and beat a very poor team in Temple (and gave up 35 or so points to that bad team). I'm not sold on him this year yet. Time will tell.anthony e wrote:I will be the first one to say that I thought Greg Brandon had done a terrible job as a head coach over the last two years. I'm not sold yet, but we were not "way over matched" at Michigan State. They won by 10 points and the only unit that really dominated us was their DL against our OL in the 2nd half. It happens, but I certainly wouldn't say we were way overmatched.
It takes more than 3 games for me to be convinced, simply because we've seen good 3 game stretches from his teams before. I want to see him put a whole season together, but so far this year has been much improved over the previous 2 years for sure. For some reason I have more faith in this team already than I ever did in the '04 group as well...they just look to have something.

Give Coach credit for getting the offense going thru the air again. How about the improvement in special teams? The staff made excellent adjustments at the half Saturday. The swagger is back. Yes, there are areas that need improvement. Lord knows I want to see a running game go for 150+ every game.
We were way overmatched at Michigan State? Who said that? MSU was up 21-17 going into the 4th quarter. MSU is a solid BiG Ten team and I though we hung very well. And MN may not be a very good team but it was still a road game vs a BiG Ten team.
Temple? The Owls were held to 239 total yards and 21 points thru 55 min. They scored 2 garbage TD's and put up 162 yards of offense against our THIRD teamers on D. BTW, Temple still had their starters in. Temple is an improving team...they should have beaten UConn but were totally screwed by the officials.
Nobody said they were praising Coach B as God...someone was just giving Coach and the staff, with multiple new coaches this year, some credit. That's all.

Also, to play the chain game, Temple barely lost to a UConn team which just destroyed a Pitt team that barely lost to MSU.Falconfreak90 wrote:Give Coach credit for getting the offense going thru the air again. As Freak pointed out, those last two TDs were the very definition of meaningless.CrazyFan wrote:beat a very poor team in Temple (and gave up 35 or so points to that bad team).
Temple kept their first team in until the final gun. Meanwhile, we had our third-string in early in the fourth quarter.
We could have easily hung 60 or 70 points on them, but Brandon did the right thing by getting the backups on the field. Seeing Glaud, Turner and Macon out there made perfect sense. Same with the defense. That's how you build depth.
As for Brandon, give the guy his due. He revamped his staff and revitalized his team. No need to anoint him as anything right now. We're off to a good start. Let's see how the rest of the season plays out, but he's certainly done the job thus far.

This may be the biggest factor in the turnaround so far.1987alum wrote:As for Brandon, give the guy his due. He revamped his staff and revitalized his team.

I give GB his due for the simple fact that last year I don't believe we win the Temple game with it being 21-21 at half. Many times last year our team would get too down on themselves in these situations and the game would be over. It's obvious the mentality the coaches have put into the players has greatly changed, and whether it be new staff or just a change in philosophy, it is nice to see that things have just changed in general. I'm hoping it can continue on this year and beyond.

I've been among the biggest Brandon-Bashers for years now. Having said that, I'm very encouraged by what I've seen from the team so far. I'm still far from sold, but he's got an opportunity to win the MAC and get me much closer to his side.
Lot of season left. We've competed well so far. We need to keep it going and stay focused.

Not to mention that if we have a healthy Omar two years ago, there was NO WAY we blow that 2-game lead in the division and we would have played for the MACC.
Last year we were again set back by the early departure of Omar and the fact that we played a ton of true freshman.
I think Brandon has showed than he can be an effective head coach.

Im sort of with you on this in that GB saw the error of his ways a bit...BUT DAM THE GUy IS SLOW! TS should have been starting last year after game 3! Imagine where this kid would be right now, with this amazing O line had he been made the Aplha last year. That is disappointing.
however we are on the right track and playing competitive...we are not beating the baby ruth out of folks like we could..but it should come. the first real test of this team will be the BC. State was a good test, but BC is more consistent and we are building and have good progression each week in this team development.
My questions reside right now with this being a development year, what will our O line be like next year and other key positions...this is why last season was such a key rebuilding year and why i feel it was huge waste on a terrible QB

I'm agreeing with the general consesus in that Temple scored some meaningless points in the 4th quarter, not to mention that at the point that Glaud and Turner came into the game, the offensive play calling went very conservative. We won this game going away, but to be honest, Temple has some nice players. They aren't the same team they've been the last few years. They will some games in the future. I like their chances against Army!
And for the record, I think Coach Brandon and his staff are doing a good job this season!

Sheehan was not the Alpha last year. He did nothing to prove he was the Alpha or could have been the Alpha last year.MACMAN wrote:Im sort of with you on this in that GB saw the error of his ways a bit...BUT DAM THE GUy IS SLOW! I think what you see this year is the result of the kid being given time to develop out of the spotlight and criticism of the fans, press and opponents. If he would have been smacked around last year I doubt he would have come with the same strong start he has had so far. Nothing that he has done this year indicates to me that he is missing experience or has been harmed in any way by learning from the sidelines last year.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.
I'm still reserving judgment until the end of the year, or the mathematical end of the year.
However, I'm not going to give him slack for the collapse a couple of years ago, and ducking behind a wounded QB is what Blackney did after the CMU debacle in 1994. The season imploded and it shouldn't have, and the lack of any ability to squeak out a pair of wins falls on the coaching staff more than anything. Hindsight not withstanding.
In any case, nice as some of the season has been, I'm not sold yet. GB has to make a positive move forward, winning something, not making debatable progress which is used to shield him from ultimately failing to achieve something larger.
Season is young, the UT game looms, and as far as my base expectations, winning that game is the start and maybe minimum requirement.
