Sheehan was not the Alpha last year. He did nothing to prove he was the Alpha or could have been the Alpha last year.

I think what you see this year is the result of the kid being given time to develop out of the spotlight and criticism of the fans, press and opponents. If he would have been smacked around last year I doubt he would have come with the same strong start he has had so far. Nothing that he has done this year indicates to me that he is missing experience or has been harmed in any way by learning from the sidelines last year.
and my point is GB anoints the Alpha and by game 3 it was clear AT was not it, he could have just as easily
tossed Gauld out there ( who was my pick if you go back in time) My point is GB wasted the whole of last season "developing" what could not be developed when we had QUALITY options which would have put us ahead in the curve right now. Thats all Im saying.

The offensive cordnator Mike McCall deserves more prase than anybody. He just said who needs the running game. So it doesnt matter who the quarterback is they just finally started passing the ball! They could have decided to do the samething last year, but they had to be stubbern and not believe in the QB. Just look what trust did for Sheehan.

You can't distill an entire season's worth of efforts to a single game. Wait, yes you can.

This is Bowling Green, and you simply can't lose 4 in a row to the minimum security prison.

Judging by what I've seen of Anthony Turner if we stepped back and tried to throw 50 times a game last year it would've been much uglier than it was, and that's saying something. Turner did nothing to earn any trust, from the start with the off the field incident to his play on the field

I still say at some point it is quite conceivable that you will need a running game. To abandon it completely is not the best strategy. We have a strong enough passing game that we don't need to rely on the run. Still, you're better off with the ability to smashmouth your way for a 3rd & short than you are relying on the pass to pick up that lone yard...too may variables in a pass.

I'm not gonna withdraw my "Fire the coach" thread just yet. So far a good start. I think this week's game is going to be a tough one. We need to establish the run and stay consistent on defense. The third quarter of the Temple game was the best I have seen since GB took over. We need to quit kicking it out of bounds and depend more on our kick coverage. Sheehan has been huge! His accuracy is great. Too many dropped passes, though. All in all, GB is grading a "B". Much better than I anticipated so far.

Losing to the minimum security prison-hmmm, would that be an inner-squad game?

My questions still remain...why did Brandon basically throw away a year last year running a different offense? If AT wasn't the guy to run his true offense, why screw around with him running quarterback draws? Why have Bullock turn in a good year at RB and then completely take him out of the offensive scheme this year? Too many of these questions anoint him just yet IMO.

QB is a tough position. You don't want to throw a young kid out there if he's not ready to perform at a high enough level to maintain his confidence. It is conceivable to play a young QB too early, have them struggle & lose confidence, then never rebound to be the same QB they could become by learning the offense first.

It is also quite conceivable that Brandon realized we couldn't run a true passing offense during spring ball and started the move towards running more at that time. Remember Tyler was a true freshman and didn't arrive on campus until camp. By then it is too late to scrap everything you worked on in spring ball and change back to the pass happy offense. Especially since it was probably at least a couple weeks before they knew what they had in Sheehan.

The real problem was that Turner was not able to grow into a player capable of running the offense in a simlar way to Jacobs/Harriis. As a result they moved away from it, but by the time they realized that they had a true freshman who might be capable of it, they had already changed the focus too far to go back.

At least that sounds like a plausible explanation, I really don't know. I still think a lot of what we've done this year was in last year's playbook. They just knew that Turner couldn't run them, and didn't think Sheehan was ready for the spotlight either. You did see some of that with how the offense changed when Sheehan came in, even last year; it was clear they thought they could do more passing with him at QB.

As for why Bullock isn't playing, I think he might've slept with Brandon's wife or something, it's the only explanation I can think of. Obviously he's not as comfortable catching the ball as we would like, but still I think it'd be nice to actually line him up as a true RB and use it to gain some yards on the ground. Especially in rushing situations.

I don't quite understand GB's reasoning either on that point. I think it was he just did not trust his QB, and I saw no problem with what Tuner did last year. But hey thats over and it's this year now so I'm just going to say that GB and his assistants got this team rolling so far this year. I really wondering what they are doing with Bullock, I guess they have no use for him and prefer that he transfers.

On the other hand, if you told me we were headed to a MAC Championship, but had to lose to Toledo to get it, I'd settle for the UT loss in exchange. The battle of I-75 is a big deal, but a MAC title is a bigger deal, and we haven't had one of those in a while either. What is it now, 15 years?

I think that's about it.

And don't forget we had a serious lack of depth or experience at receiver last year.

Brandon clearly changed his system to fit his players last year. A lot of college coaches won't do that. The fact that Brandon did shows humility and a deep desire to win (or, at least, to show up and not get our teeth completely kicked in).

I said it two weeks ago: If I were AD, I'd be mentally prepared to give Brandon a three-year extension based on what I've seen so far. That's still where my head is at.

Gregg Brandon is a good coach....he didn't suddenly get dumb last year and he hasn't suddenly gotten smarter this year. Last year we paid a price for being a young team. This year we're reaping the benefits of some very good recruiting and excelent coaching that's developed that talent.

The 2003 class brought in the "five Blocks of Granite" O'Dro and Hargrove. 2004 class netted Partridge, Dozier, Briggs, Winovich, Haneline, Schaefer, Parks and Turner. 2005 brought Bullock, Barnes, Barrow, Smith, Hardwick, Basler and Kenny Lewis. 2006 adds Sheehan, Mahone, Brown, Sanderson,Young, Pronty, Magnone and 2007 brings in Ransom, Geter, Iova....the punter and Virvi...Virva...the kicker. There's a lot of talent in that 2006 and 2007 classes that hasn't hit the field yet...look out when they do

A lot of people dismiss the success Brandon enjoyed here initially by pointing to Urban Meyer. That was not the easy situation to step into that people assume it was. The team had achieved some success, but it hadn't shown the capability to win on the road or to beat quality opposition in the conference...let's also not forget that Meyer's last team closed out the season with losses in three of their last four games. You had a team that was poised to do well, but it was by no means a lock that they would do well. Brandon did a good job in keeping that team together and getting them through the trauma of their head coah bailing oin them.

Now we see that the talent is in place to not only win this year, but the next year and the year after. The stadium looks great, the Sebo Center is a reality and the team is making some noise again. It looks to me like Brandon has built a program here..we had a medicore year, we had a rough year bit the pieces are in place for us to do what Toledo did from 1995 or so until last year...be an annual force in the MAC.

You people that "aren't sold" or whatever are nuts...you're insane :-) ...unless this team has an absolute collapse due to injury, illness or some other catastrophe, I think we will be lucky...VERY lucky to keep Gregg Brandon here. He's proven he can take a team that's almost there and win and he's in the final stages of proving that he can build a winning program on his own. Guys like that don't stay in the MAC for long.

And please note...at no time in this entire post did I use the word "God"...well...until now
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
