I like the peace pipe trophy because it carries historical context. The original was a massive 6 foot long authentic native american pipe that was up for grabs when the hoops teams met in the 50s. It appearantly went missing and was resurected in the late 70s or early 80s.
I have also heard that soemtimes it is used for medicinal purposes.

I think if the thing were still five or six feet long, that would be funny.
I think if we are going to have "The Peace Pipe" they really do need to make it something big again. Of course, I'm sure some bleeding heart would say we are offending native Americans, mocking the peace movement, and promoting smoking.
What we need is a traveling throphy representing the BGSU and UT fan communities, with the winning teams lead web site keeping the throphy as the team would the peace pipe. Take it to tailgates. Jack up some PR with it. Put pictures of it on the keepers web site.
Now what would the throphy be.....
A throphy with a bronzed modem on the top? Maybe wrape Cat 5 around the throphy stem, plugging the end into the modem? Maybe make the Cat 5 half orange, and half blue?

Yeah, I agree. We came up with it because we thought we needed something like like the old oaken bucket. On the other hand, what's the trophy for the OSU-UM game. That's what I thought.
I thought OSU players received SUV's from McDaniel Motors in Marion for winning. Plus, I think they also get a free steak from the Sizzler next door.

There is an element of religion to the use of peace pipes. I suppose it would be comparable to putting a cross or a crescent on a trophy.NWLB wrote:Of course, I'm sure some bleeding heart would say we are offending native Americans, mocking the peace movement, and promoting smoking.
But it needs to be put in perspective. It isn't like passing a human skull around (as Wittenberg and Ohio Weselyan did for 60 years).

I think we should play for an island.
Supposedly, the University (sic) of Toledo owns an island, and they can't figure out what to do with it.
I think they should bet it on the game. Winner gets title. Maybe we could stick a huge flag of the winning team on the island.
Or maybe there is another island to fight over. When you cross the Maumee on I-75, look to the west and you will see a small marshy island in the river.
I wonder who owns that?
A huge BG flag would look cool there.
