The Springer factor

Post by JoeFalcon »

As Coach Brandon reminded us after the Temple game, it's tough to win college football games. It's probably tougher when the opponent has access to your offensive and defensive playbooks, knows the way you strategically think on both sides of the ball and has inside knowledge about the strengths and weaknesses of individual players.

As Freak and Option have noted, BG faces such a task this week with our former running backs and defensive backs coach Dennis Springer now working for Western Kentucky.

Film can only tell you so much. He knows whether Kenny Lewis is particularly vulnerable to double moves. He knows the route progression Tyler Sheehan is going to use on passing plays. They're going to know everything there is to know about our entire offensive and defensive system down to the hand signals (which I assume will be changed, of course). In a close game, this type of information can be the difference between winning and losing. Hopefully we can just "out-athlete" them and none of this will matter, but it's still cause for concern.
