I think there is already a plan in place to do that very thing. I don't have any inside information, but I really think when the plans are announced to replace/renovate Anderson and the Ice Arena, that we'll hear that they want to add a convocation center to the south end of the Doyt. So in that regard, it will match up with the style of the Sebo Center. I think that they will also recommend to upgrade the Doyt more as well. And I'm all for it! I'm impressed with the changes they've made this year to the stadium. It seems like the university is really getting behind the program!Falconboy wrote:Agreed.FalconTurf wrote:The Sebo makes a great backyard for the stadium, possibly the best, but the front door is still the south end. can we maybe get some facility support for the hockey team and men's/women's bball teams before we add more to the Doyt? just a thought...

I just hope that if we do build a convo for basketball in the south area of the Doyt we don't put right up against the stadium making it impossible to put a south grandstand. Where the Sebo is has made it impossible for us to do anything for the North End but lets not screw up the possibility to upgrade the south end of the Doyt with new seating.falconfan1999 wrote:I think there is already a plan in place to do that very thing. I tend to agree with this. There may be a way to work in a basketball building and still leave room to create a bowl in the south end while still integrating the building into the Doyt somehow.Falconboy wrote:I just hope that if we do build a convo for basketball in the south area of the Doyt we don't put right up against the stadium making it impossible to put a south grandstand. Honestly, if we ever want more permanent seats, I do think the next step would be to build a second tier of seating (along with more boxes and press area, if needed) along the west side. I don't think end zone seating would get us as far.
But it would be nice to still have the option of enclosing the bowl if we needed. Also, it's a good spot for temporary seating if we ever decide we need it for a particular game.

My understanding of the Convocation Center is this - there have been a couple of plans submitted for review. These plans include (1) basketball facility only, and (2) a basketball facility as well as additional ice for the hockey team. Supposedly the university is now undertaking a study to determine how much funding can be raised. Option 2 is probably the preferred option BUT not if we cannot raise the money. I also understand that they do not want to have the ice under the basketball floor so they are looking at two distinct venues inside of the convocation center. This will cost even more $$$$.
My understanding is also that the location is definite - the south side of Perry Stadium. This puts parking concerns out of the way as you have the lot on the east side of the stadium (and it would need to be upgraded).
This is what I have put together in listening here and there.

I had my fiance in the band shell last friday. I told her to speak normally, and I could hear her loud and clear from the 50. I'd say that the Sebo center defintely acts as some sort of amplifier for sound. The Niz wrote:From a musicians point of view; concert bands always use a shell to help project EVERY sound away from the stage. The SEBO is effectively a giant concert shell, not only for the band, but for the entire crowd also. With three enclosed sides of the stadium the sound is completely amplified and with no wind anymore to sweep it away, the place will be twice as loud.
It also seems to help cut down the wind in the Doyt as well. It wasn't too windy last Friday, but I couldn't notice any wind from my seats. Hopefully it will make the place a little more comfortable come November.
Go Falcons!
As a current member of the FMB, I'm happy that we now have a place to call home. It's a shame that I won't be around much longer to enjoy it though. When I first came on campus, we sat in those terrible wooden bleachers, then for the last two years we were stuck in the stands next to the student section which wasn't too bad with the exception of the random drunk trying to make us Maggots play something. I would love to hear the ideas of what people have for the south endzone. Since several of you have been able to make a trip to see the new Doyt L. Perry Stadium, maybe a few of you "artists" can eventually come up with sketches, drawlings, whatever it is you guys know how to do. Yeah, I realize that it's a little crazy to ask for something like this, but hey, it's a forum and why not?
I've noticed that many of you have said that the convocation center may be built on the south side of the stadium and that several of you have a problem with it if it is butted up against the stadium similiar to the SEBO in the regard that it would keep the university from possibly putting seating in that area. Now I feel that the convo center can always be built in a way so that any possible seating to enclose the south endzone can be built into the center. But I also realize that it's possible that it would be butted up against the endzone, and if that's the case, 1)hopefully it won't be a mirror image of the SEBO and 2) I hope they put in at least a small seating area, as well as make it possible to enlarge the tents and have them somehow attached to the building.

If it were up to me the convo would butt up against the stadium and the north end of it would be genuine luxury suites, in the true sense. Catering, alcohol, comfortable seating with a glass wall to see through and TVs up there as well.
Those types of things are large revenue streams for a university & a good way to schmooze donors as well.
The bottom floor could have a Falcon club pavilion type thing along with an Falcon merchandise storefront accessible both from the football side & the basketball side.
Of course this would require relocating the scoreboard, but I think that's an acceptable fact given what this could add to the facility. I'm not an architect, but I think something like that would be feasible.

That's sort of what I had in mind, I just couldn't put it into sentences at 2 in the morning. I don't know if it would require relocating the scoreboard as much as it would require replacing it with one that is built onto the building. Besides, it would give us a reason to place another scoreboard near the SEBO as well.hammb wrote:If it were up to me the convo would butt up against the stadium and the north end of it would be genuine luxury suites, in the true sense. My mind shows a large HD videoboard on top of the new facility, with the current scoreboard being moved into the new convo to give us a video board for hoops as well. I don't really think we need two scoreboards for the football stadium.Strouse wrote:That's sort of what I had in mind, I just couldn't put it into sentences at 2 in the morning. My idea is similar to Wisconsin where the old basketball fieldhouse sits on one end with the bleacher seating running up to it. Above the seats put a nice scoreboard. And to maintain the Falcon Club seating elevate the seats 10 -12 feet above the ground with seating below and slightly in front to replace the Falcon Club tent.
Let's not put too much seating in. I prefer small a packed frequently rather that large and packed rarely. The idea of building up on one sideline is better than a real large endzone area due to the fact most people prefer to be seated between the endzones rather than behind.

I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.
A friend and I wondered on up to the SEBO before the game Saturday. I snapped a few pics from the 3rd floor meeting room and one of the room itself (there's a 50" plasma on the wall that you can't see) . Thought I'd share them with everybody. Next game head on up there, everybody was real cool about letting us walk around and check it out.
