Came to drop by and exchange some info so hopefully we can both know what to look for Saturday!
I know you guys will come to play and we'll have to be on our "A" game if we want to come away with the W. Not underestimating y'all one bit, FWIW.

weaknesses/ strengths?
welcome bc mike, in your eyes what would you consider your teams strengths and weaknesses?
From our team, you will see a very subpar rushing attack and most likely you guys will be able to throw on us all day. We have proven to be fairly successful in our passing attack as we run a spread offense. We have played fairly tough so far this year, but we will have to play our very best to hang with you guys this weekend. Hope this helps, now let us hear about your god of a QB and the rest of the team

Welcome!
I'm not sure what we really have yet. We've played four games, but we haven't seen much of a rushing attack, our defense has shown flashes of brilliance though our scores wouldn't necessarily indicate that, our kick coverage is improving and we're doing OK kicking the ball.
We are a very young team with good speed and a good attitude.
How that translates into Saturday's performance, we just don't know.
How does your defense look?

Mike-
We are making the trip out to Boston for the game and staying in Waltham. Do you have any suggestion on getting to the game, parking (we have a rental car) etc. From everyhing I can gather, parking is a NIGHTMARE, especially for visitors without a parking pass. Any other tips would also be appreciated.
Thanks

I would say the biggest strength on offense is obviously Matty Ryan. Best sign of a great player is he makes people around him look better. The offensive line has been borderline great in pass blocking, and borderline poor in rush blocking.
We've got two RB's who are both good, but are a kentucky mile away from being great. Callendar and Whitworth are so interchangable, even as a BC die-hard I have a hard time realizing who is in at any given moment.
WR's have been spotty. Some games they look great, other times they have gotten cases of the dropsies. Brandon Robinson is our best WR (#2), look for him to try to stretch the defense deep. Challenger is a decent posession WR, and the rest are ok/good WR's, with no one really showing distance from each other.
On defense, the run D has been flat out fantastic. Best run-D I've ever seen at BC. I honestly think (homer cap on) that we would stop just about anyone on the ground.
Conversely.....I'm not sure we can stop anyone through the air
DeJuan Tribble is a great CB who will occupy the big side of the field (he won't stick to a certain WR), but on the short side there have been major issues. While it's true that teams are forced to pass on us because they can't run---we're certainly making it very easy for them.
Expect your QB to have a good day throwing the ball as long as he's patient.

As a BC fan, I'm honestly very worried about BG's passing attack. Our two biggest problems on defense have been giving passes up over the middle of the field (it's starting to look like a rite of passage for opposing teams), and lack of pass rush.
While it's true BC's hasn't blitzed more than a small handful of times on the year, you would expect the front four to get more pressure on the QB. I don't want to rail on the front four too hard, as they've been lights out vs. the run....but we're getting next to zero pressure on opposing QB's.

Great, I hope you have a great time at The Heights and check out a bunch of other Boston things while you're in town. How long is your stay?factman wrote:Mike-

Parking in Boston (generally speaking) sucks. It's actually gotten a lot better, believe it or not, over the years. The tricky part is that MANY cars are towed during game day. Make SURE if you park somewhere that it's okay to park there.
Frankly, what I have always done is go to the Sports Depot, a BIG sports bar a couple miles away from campus. They've got a pretty big lot there to the LEFT of the bar itself. I think they may charge something like $5. Then I have a couple cold ones with some friends, and either hop a taxi for a quick ride, or jump on the T (Green line to BC) to the game.
As you said, unless you have a pass, it can be nightmarish.

Sounds like this game might be played exclusively through the air. Our defense is much the same, we play a soft cover 2 and usually only send 4 guys on a rush, like BC I can count on one hand how many times we've blitzed. Our run D is somewhat suspect, although it played well against Michigan State. A lot of the rushing numbers by opposing teams in the box score the past two weeks were inflated from garbage time TD's.BCMike2 wrote:Thanks again for the welcome!1987alum wrote:Mike:

We respect BC a helluva lot, and we know we'll have to play almost perfect to beat you guys. My hope for us is that we compete hard and can prove to BC fans and the nation that we're going to be a team to deal with down the road. This is a first year of a building process for us and right now we can take all the confidence we can get.
Also, would like to thank you for your complete honesty and sportsmanship for coming here and sharing your thoughts. We always appreciate having knowledgeable fans from other schools engaged in intelligent discussions. You definitely are a classy guy.

BC's is overrated in the polls, the polls are all off this yer more than ever before...1 there should be no polls, and 2 polls should not come out untill week 3 when things settle down...anyway...BC's running game could provide us with nightmares currently avg what...about 3.5 to 4 yards a carry on 29-33 a game, we have seen this before and we either shut it down or and BG will be strong on against the run., or it kills us...im leaning toward a shut down. BC is currently getting in the low 100's per game on the ground, i expect to see that more like mid100's in this game to win we will have to keep them to about 150. PAssing they are at about 200 ish we will l shut that down and hold them to about 100.
BG will likely put up more than 330 yards passing against BC's worse than average passing D, they have not played anyone who passes like BG yet, and last weeks weak showing against a D II school doesnt hold well for me. I think they are looking past opponents right now believing what they read ,that UMass and the3 teams that follow are sure W's for them.
We will have to produce a bit more with run esp since BC will be trying to hard to defend us on the pass it should and will open up, esp since BC's secondary is so outmatched by BGs WR corps.
this game will be all wraped up in the middle of third one way or the other either BG is crushes by the run, or BC is folded under by the spread. passing attack..its not going to be close in the end.
a healthy BG team will win this...cant believe Im picking BG but GB has made a lot of adjustments this year, a BIG POSITIVE CHANGE in our QB spot, a good move putting AT in the mix as a WR-multi mission guy, our O line is strong as steel and it will be some time before they are this strong as a unit again are D is improved over last year...but there are still big issues i wont broach here...I hate our puntformation there are still tomany close calls. but BG will take the day.

Thanks for the kind words. I thank you guys for having a good discussion instead of "BC SUCKS" or some other trash like that
Teams seem to be playing more and more deep/soft zones vs. Ryan. In the UMass game, he kept on trying to force the ball downfield and not take what the defense was giving him. We're curious to see if that changes next week.
I do think it will be a pretty high scoring affair....should be some fun football to watch!
LOL...there's one on every board, don't worry about itRedwingtom wrote:To our BC friend, although I agree that you are probably overrated right now, please don't pay much attention to MACMAN's post. The rest of us don't
Re: being "over rated". At this point in the season, after all of those insane upsets last week....I think it's safe to say that just about everyone is over-rated right now.
People want to concentrate on us only beating Army by 20 or only beating UMass (who is actually a pretty good team if you research them) by 10....instead of looking at the three games we had to start the season. Three tough conference games while everyone else was feasting on cupcakes.
So sure, I agree BC is probably over-rated at this point, but so it everyone else right now. I'm not sure you can make a good case for a whole lot of teams to be ranked OVER us right now that aren't already.
Time will tell if we deserve the ranking or not. We clearly have enough good tests in front of us to see what this team is made of.
Welcome, BC Mike! If you were able to decipher any of MACMAN's post, could you please fill us in?
As far as the game, I expect what has already been discussed - a high scoring game with a lot of yards through the air. We were expected to have a very strong offensive line; however, penalties have been an issue at times and the MSU line really wore them down in the second half. We were dominated in the fourth quarter by a very good MSU defensive line.
If we can protect Tyler and somewhat control the BC running game, I think we have a legitimate shot in this game. Matt Ryan is going to have a big game and he will throw TD passes. He's a good QB and good QB's will get their stats. We will need to make plays on his mistakes.
I see a final margin somewhere between a BG win by 3 to a BC win by 17. Anywhere outside of that range will surprise me. Here's to a clean, competitive and injury free game on Saturday.
