You're conveniently forgetting about the millions upon millions that the Big Ten (11) gets to split amongst themselves from Bowl Games, Network TV deals, Cable TV Deals, and now the BTN. Not to mention the recruiting prospects you'd get if BG was in a BCS conference. If BG would be able to get bumped to the Big Ten, it would take a 3-4 years before they built a team that would consistently compete season after season. But that will never happen, b/c OSU will NEVER allow any other Ohio team to even try to compete with them. Ever. They would cause such a s**t storm to keep any other state school from competing, it'd make your head spin. Believe me, Ohio State loves being THE Ohio State University, and will pull whatever crap is necessary to make sure that never, ever, ever changes.bgsukid wrote: Playing in the Big Ten week in and week out is a lot tougher than having to play them twice. It's easy to get up for a few games a year, it's a lot different having to come ready to play your best ball every week.

BG would never get invited to the Big 10 for a myriad of reasons. No doubt OSU would be against it, but beyond that we don't fit the academic profile of the conference either.
Even if we were to become some huge cash cow of the MAC and dominate play for 10 years, I still don't see us getting asked into the Big 10...the academics do mean something, and it would keep us out of the conference.
Not that I really care. I'd love to see us move to a BCS conference, but I'd rather see a world where all the conferences are given equal shots at the national title.

Why don't we quit bitching about things we will never be able to change and focus on the fact that the Falcons are 3-1, 1-0 in the MAC and well on their way to a great season to remember!!! Yeah, many BG fans are also Buckeye fans but you know what? THEY are the ones missing out on the great football that is being played right now. So let's just move on from this discussion that has been on top of the board for far too long...AY ZIGGY ZOOMBA!!!

I'm well aware, but Purdue was not mentioned as one of the teams that were left off the schedule.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:and you do know that the Big 10 only plays eight conference games so he had to leave three teams out
I'm not forgetting anything. You're looking at this like if BG had been member of the Big Ten for years. I was just saying if this team played a complete Big Ten schedule this year I think we'd go 2-6. Not only would OSU not let BG in the Big Ten, neither would the other 10 schools. Being a member of the Big Ten is more than about how good your football and basketball team are. Academically we don't come close to fitting the profile of a Big Ten school. The Big East would be the only viable possibility for us to get invited to a BCS conference outside of the MAC becoming a BCS league(yeah right), but that's not going to happen in the near future either.CapitalFalcon wrote:You're conveniently forgetting about the millions upon millions that the Big Ten (11) gets to split amongst themselves from Bowl Games, Network TV deals, Cable TV Deals, and now the BTN. God knows why I picked my first post back to come in this swirling drain of a thread (but a good BG News write up to start it!), but I found a pretty cool parallel on vacation, that in the end made me ashamed to ask the question. We were at the wet bar at our resort and were talking to a couple from Birmingham about whatever, sports came up and I asked if he was an Alabama or an Auburn fan. The guy replied "I don't give a sh*t about either of them, I went to UAB."
Follow that a few days later with a security worker at the airport in Atlanta seeing me in a BG football t-shirt (with no logo or nickname mentioned on the shirt), he yells "Look out, we've got a Falcon coming through!!!")

It was a great time. Though if we had just one more night in that resort, I'd probably be washed up on a beach about now... we saw the couple from Alabama the next morning, and she talked about how hungover she was. Though she was drinking some heavy-handed pina coladas all night, I believe I was one tip away from them hooking the beer tap directly to my stomach. Given one more night, I think we'd have made a game of drinking with those folks. Not to mention the retirees from New England we met that weren't too down that they didn't have the all-inclusive plan, because they had plenty of scotch, etc. stashed in their luggage. Add on the Costa Rican lawyer who invited us to her daughter's 16th bday party the next night, and it could have been lights out for me and the wife.

Just thought I'd post this paragraph from the article before all the apologists puke up the "it's because they're so great and send players to the pros" argument. The numbers released are called Graduation Success Rates (GSR) by the NCAA and count only scholarship athletes. They also do not count athletes who transfer or leave school early for the pros as long as they are academically eligible when they depart. So the Buckeyes' numbers aren't low because their players are too talented.
Apparently this is where the spelling "Ohio" with the arms came from. It's not tradition, it's a mnemonic device.
