Kicked in the gut...
Here's what I just emailed to Greg Christopher, Jane Myers, Scot Bressler and Coach Orr:
Subject: Kicked in the gut...
That's how I'm feeling right now...
My family has held Section L, Row 7, Seat 1 in Anderson Arena for men's basketball for at least 35 years now... it's where my dad sat for every single game of every single season right up until a month before his death in April 2001. Then I took the tickets over from my parents.
I get my season ticket letter today and find out that I can't have this reserved seat. It's been made general admission.
I feel like I want to puke.
I'm assuming this is a result of the Falcon Club "hospitality" area?

Grant, where is section L? What is the Falcon Club hospitality area, and why would that cause your reserved seat to become GA?
Maybe they think this change is better for the program as a whole. However, they need to take care of you in some way. I have to think that they'd offer you a top choice for another location.
Keep me posted on how they handle this situation. I'm interested.

I don't want a different location. I don't even sit in the seat.

That stinks. I know how much that seat meant to you. You'd think the AD would recognize the sentimental value for long term fans. There's only so much reconfiguration you can do at AA and I can't imagine they can make any changes that will substantially affect revenue so why make any at all? Hope it gets worked out- I used to visit your dad up there when I went to games- I could probably walk right to it.
They should put a plaque on the seats. Seriously.
Or maybe you could go in there with a circular saw and some CAT-5 cable, tear those seats out and take 'em home. Call it official IT business.
I hope they come up with something for ya... I know what those seats mean to ya, and you may need them by the end of the year when we go for win #20...

Re: Kicked in the gut...
Grant, havent' you been sitting in whats referred to as the GA seating anyway? At least thats what I know from seeing you at the games. Cuz where I've seen you sit alot I dont believe you can get a seat reserved technically but maybe I'm wrong. Is what you've reserved been chair seating in another section somewhere and you just go to the GA to actually sit?ZiggyZoomba wrote:Here's what I just emailed to Greg Christopher, Jane Myers, Scot Bressler and Coach Orr:

Like Grant said, he doesn't sit in the seats. He sits in the student section. That's not the point.Falconboy wrote:Grant, havent' you been sitting in whats referred to as the GA seating anyway? The reserved seats that he has are the ones that his dad sat in for decades. His dad, the inspiration for this website. It's not about sitting in the seats its about sentimental value.
Sucks, Grant, hopefully they'll come up with something to make it up to ya, not sure what it could be those. I like Tony's idea of taking a saw in there and taking the seats home, personally.

AA seating.....
I just checked the AA seating diagram from bgsufalcons.com and it looks as though section L still has chairs that should be still reserved ones. A bit higher up in section L there is GA seating. I honestly have no clue what they're planning on changing. They better not screw it up too much.

Thanks everyone! I know there are things that have to change. It's just a ritual for me... before games (Yeah... I get there an hour before game time even when AA is empty) I go up and sit in dad's seat. I meditate a little bit, talk to him... hard to understand unless you've lost a parent... but it's a great way to "feel" him still there.
I understand that doesn't have to change. I just don't like the idea of someone else sitting in them. I think people did anyhow, because, as has been discussed, I sit in the student section, NOT in my season tickets.
My feelings are irrational and based solely in nostalgia, but they're not going to change. I just feel the need to keep the seat in my "possession."
Funny about the circ-saw... Coach Dakich came to my dad's memorial service and told me when AA came down, I could do just that; Slice off that bench and bring it home. I think he was under the impression AA would be down by now, but yeah...
Dakich told me he used to use my dad's head as a barometer of the team's performance. He'd look up to L,7,1 and if my dad's head was up, things were good... if he was hanging it low, it was time for a timeout to regroup.
Greg Christopher has already responded to my email to let me know he's gotten it. He's travelling right now, but will call me when he's back in BG on Tuesday. I like the idea of a plaque or something. It'll be interesting to see what ideas he has and if we can do anything "special" for section L, row 7, seat 1. I really appreciate that he's willing to talk to me about it. You think that would happen at OSU or any other "big time" program?
Again... thanks to everyone for the support and the respect... and Bruns, yeah... I'm sure you'd be able to find the seat...

I agree. Considering G's entire body of work, this might be the MOST rational behavior...

ZiggyZ, I appreciate your father's dedication to BG basketball- and your desire to remember him and that dedication. My father had the same two chair seats from the day the arena opened until 1983. After my Mom's passing, he sat with us/near us in a different spot until he passed in 1998. One of my favorite pictures is my Dad with Anthony Stacey near the second set of seats. So I know how you feel.
Changes happen, but memories remain. I am also pleased to hear that our AD has already made contact with you as he travels from Boston etc. on the weekend. This type of concern for our fans (though we don't know the final outsome) is indicative of a very fan focused management style in my opinion.

G,
I hope everything works out for you. No need to explain your feelings, bro. Totally understandable.
I love hearing the stories about your dad. Even though I never met him, he sounded like a wonderful man, father and BG fan.
Keep the faith...
