We knew this would be a tough game...MU's HC, Big Ben back in town and the tribute to Hoeppner really fired MU up. We seemed to be going thru the motions and, dare I say, not caring what happened? Seriously. With the Freaklings there, we ended up walking out of Yager with 8 min left. It was way too painful to keep watching and we both thought it would be best just to go. We always talk with the players after games but yesterday, I felt that wouldn't be the best idea. This is only the 2nd game I've ever left early...Kent last year was the first. We were gonna tailgate and grill some more in the lot so we didn't have to stop on the way home but some jackazz MU kid with a bullhorn was spewing obscenities all over the lot. Mrs. Freak and I decided it would be best to just go and that was a shame. We sat with Flip, Mrs. Flip and Flipperella...that was cool. There was a great group of orange there and to have to witness that was not fun at all.
I don't know what's happened the last two weeks, but we're at the proverbial crossroads of the season. Either we suck it up and get back to playing BOWLING GREEN FOOTBALL or we tank like 2006.
I could literally count on one hand the players that had a fire in their belly yesterday...and one thing that really pissed me off was Briggs stepping over the MU QB after a tackle late in the 3rd. The MU QB kinda laid there for a few seconds dazed and Briggs stepped over him like a prize fighter ending a fight. Excuse me? Take a look at the scoreboard....it was 37-7. Don't EVER pull a stunt like that again. I love Briggs...he plays hard and wreaks havoc but that was classless. I saw another BG player trash talking with an MU player late in the 3rd quarter...all the MU player did was point to the scoreboard. Ouch. Let that be a lesson. While we were pissing and moaning, MU was playing. End of story. I am not wearing orange glasses today and decided to step out of being a BG fan and looking at yesterday as a casual fan. I'm sorry but that's what I saw.
I need to remember we still have a young team...they are still learning. BUT, there is simply no excuse to come out and perform that poorly. The D couldn't stop anything yesterday. Miami is a good team but not THAT good. Offensively, we all knew we would need a running game at some point. We still don't have one and that is frustrating and a BiG concern.
Last week, I thought "Well, BC is in the top 5 and a great team so it was just a bad day". Yesterday, was much worse against a team we could have beaten. We definitely have no room for error in the East the rest of the way. KSU, OU, Akron and Buffalo are all must win games and we have to hope MU loses two in the East. This was a huge divisional game and we laid an egg. Ugh.
MU got rocked by Cincy 47-10 at home and the next week got creamed by Colorado 42-0. Since then, they've been playing good ball. BG can do the same thing but we're gonna have to dig deep and pull together.
I will never have a problem with a team that plays hard for 60 minutes and yet comes up on the short end. NEVER. However, I have a major problem with the lack of desire I saw yesterday. There is simply no excuse for lack of effort. I am always supportive of the team, coaching staff and program...always will be. But that was inexcusable yesterday.
It's over and done with and here we lose another one to MU. That's 1-8 in the last 9 vs. that school. What gives?
The thing that worries me now is Kent's D. They are arguably the best D unit in the conference. College football is a crazy game every week so who knows what will happen next Saturday? We'll be there no matter what and at least this will only be a 15 min ride instead of 4 hours.
C'mon BG! Get it outta the system and get after the Flashes!!!!
On the positive side, the lodge at Hueston Woods is awesome! We had a great time spending the night there...so beautiful and peaceful. We'll definitely be going back. And one other thing...Toledo lost again so that was good.
GO FALCONS
