Kicked in the gut...
I dont think the Niz was talking about the whole student section. i know personally that when i go to the games and want to stand on the side line the so called "Anderson Animals" just pushed me out of the way so i couldnt see the game, and being only 5ft it wouldnt be hard for someone to just look over me but because you guys have you head up your azz you dont care about anybody's experiences except your own. What's the point in going to a game where i cant see whats going on. Because of that experience i will NOT stand down there, if i'm going to pay the money for a ticket or pay my tutition and SHOW UP TO THE GAME BEFORE HALFTIME i want to see the damn game! I know people who refuse to go to the game because of the sideline crew, how is that supporting your team? And what Niz said about the whole "super fan" its ridiculos when the "side line crew" will push people out of the way just to get their picture taken or to be on TV for the toledo game.
Grant i've never met you but what they did for you and your dad's seats is a really wonderful thing!
Metz your Anderson Animals was a great freakin idea.

Funny, the whole stand vs. sit argument is only an issue now that we've had some down seasons. With the student section so sparsely populated, it is an issue because lots of non-students migrate down in.
When the student section is packed and rocking, everyone stands. Always have. It's a non-issue. A lot of you haven't had the opportunity to experience Anderson at its finest. It really is unlike anything else I've experienced in sport. When the student section "takes over" a game... goosebumps just thinking about it. Ask some of about Akron and "Angie" Hipsher.
Don't squabble over standing or sitting at this point... just do everything in your power to get the word out that this is a new season, a new coach, a new program and get as many people out to the games as you can!
A few years ago I had to get creative to find ways to sit in the student section... counterfeit wrist-bands, distracting "event staff", etc... anymore, anyone can just walk in at tip off and have a front-row seat. THAT is what needs to change!

I'm not complaining about sitting. I love to stand during the game im just saying that some people make it impossible to enjoy the game while standing or sitting. And i have seen the arena full, i've also been to every tournament game for the last 2 years. I dont think it should matter who sits in the student section as long as there is some people there but if those people are ruining it for everyone else what makes people what to come back?

Hey, I feel for ya Ms.Falcon. Being only 5ft certainly is a disadvantage if your behind someone since most of the people down on the sidelines are guys anyway. The Anderson Animals shouldn't be pushing anyone out of the way. I haven't seen this happen myself but I guess its possible some are doing it inadvertently when a news cameraman starts showing up trying to get crowd shots , then everyone does tend to go nuts a bit, I don't though..Ms.Falcon wrote:I dont think the Niz was talking about the whole student section. i know personally that when i go to the games and want to stand on the side line the so called "Anderson Animals" just pushed me out of the way so i couldnt see the game, and being only 5ft it wouldnt be hard for someone to just look over me but because you guys have you head up your azz you dont care about anybody's experiences except your own. Unfortunately, the one side of the student section never stands up at all so it makes it everybody that wants to stand try to cram into that left side Student Section area. What I've done the past few years to nearly guarantee myself a good spot on the sidelines, I show up to the games at least an hour before it starts. Thats what I would try to make sure I can stand down there with no one standing in front of you , or move up a row and stand on the seat behind them. Its basically first come first serve as far as sideline spots are concerned. If your someone who comes 15 minutes after the game starts , theres no guarantee your going to get a great spot on the sidelines.
BTW, come basketball season if I see a short girl getting pushed out of her saved spot , I'll see what I can do to get people to not do that if possible.

I get goosebumps too! One of my fondest BGSU memories is from the 2001 season when we played Michigan. The student section was packed top to bottom and end to end with everyone wearing orange t shirts. I felt the students had a huge impact on us winning that game and if I remember correctly Michigan's coach (Tommy Amacher...sp?) said he never wanted to come back. I am confident that Ore will bring back the winning tradition and the student section will become what it used to be.ZiggyZoomba wrote:Funny, the whole stand vs. sit argument is only an issue now that we've had some down seasons. Glad to hear that the AD stepped up for you and let you keep your seats!

I don't , I think its what sets us apart. If we build a new convo I want it to resemble AA in the way we have the students on the floor. Its what gives us the best home court advantage when its packed.Falcon137 wrote:I think letting students is a really reallly dumb idea. There is no homecourt advantage had in putting BG or visiting players in danger because there are people standing just off the court. There should be a press row, or actual seats on the floor none of this HS stuff.Falconboy wrote:I don't , I think its what sets us apart. I agree with Falconboy.... Can you believe I just said that???
In my 30 years of Anderson Arena ball games (Men, women, HS Tourney, all-star games, etc...) I've never seen an injury related to the close proximity of fans to floor. I've seen ONE altercation. That's a pretty good record... and it DOES provide a HUGE home-court advantage. Ask Steve Smith, Jud Heathcote and the rest of the #6 ranked MSU Spartans.... or Tommy Amaker.... or any of the MAC coaches... or Dick Vitale who named it one of the best places to SEE a basketball game in the country...

Newspapers, radio and television DO NOT need to be courtside. They like it there, but they can easily do their job from different areas in an arena. I personally hate the fact that the media get courtside seats. I say put them where they can do their games and let the paying customer have the better seats.Falcon137 wrote:There is no homecourt advantage had in putting BG or visiting players in danger because there are people standing just off the court. I like that steak comes from cows. That is why a cow will not think twice about eating you.
I cannot stomach the thought of taking away the standing on the court seating from Anderson Arena.
I feel confident that when a new convo center does finally get done the administration will look to retain this awesome atmosphere. Wow, I'm just completely baffled by even thinking that you'd take this away...

I know there are a lot of mixed feelings about the behavior/the people that stand on the court, but I also cannot see that being taken away. I think it's one of the more unique things that keep (at least a few) fans coming back to the games.
Furthermore, I think it has been proven over the years that with the help of a packed AA, the standing, on-the-court section can do a great deal to help with home court advantage.
I'll admit, sometimes the behavior/vocalizations of some of the fans (myself included, sadly) can get out of control, but I think the majority of the time the fans and the refs do a great job of keeping things at least mostly sane.
Besides, having a bunch of press tables right at courtside doesn't seem a whole lot safer to me. At least if a player takes a spill into the fans, they're not taking a tabletop the the head.
Whatever the case, I don't see the standing row going anywhere soon. I sure hope I'm right.

When I hear the suggestion that a press row or a row of chair seat should be put between the students and the court I almost feel sick. The students belong on the floor (a safe distance away from the playing surface) cheering their fellow students on. College students are the reason for college athletics.
I was turned off by Duke basketball and Cameron Indoor when I watched a game in which Donald Trump was seated on the floor in front of the students. They always claimed to have this wonderful atmosphere where all the floor seats were reserved for the student body with the upper seats for the alumni and fans. I am proud that BG has maintained students seating on the floor and I respect any program that saves these valuable seats for students that pay so dearly and cheer so loudly for their programs.
