THE BGSU marketing dept is run by pinheads who have no understanding of sports or traditions....their heads should roll and should have rolled long ago...but morons keep saying they do great things by changing everything. STOP!!!! thinking they are doing anything right, they are not.Falcon Fanatic wrote:I thought that same thing!! We ALL need to email the marketing department and tell them you COUNT THE GOALS and YELL WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE!....GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!!!pdt1081 wrote:Did anybody really pay attention to the "Chant Cards" that were passed out? The goal chant listed has the "Goalie Sieve" chant and the "It's all your fault" chant. Hello, what are we, Michigan? Where's OUR chant?!? Has anybody in marketing or whoever put those cards out ever been to a game?
GRRRR!!!
You DID notice that the defending national champions only beat them 6-0....right? Could it be that we're that much better this year? We keep hearing great things about Todd Reirdon from the players. A respected AND well liked coach can make a huge difference in the attitude and composure of a team. The atmosphere surrounding the team just seems different this year.dforde wrote:Even though we beat Windsor 12-1, this is the worst Windsor team I have seen in years. They were awful. I would not be getting too excited about this win but it was good to see some of the new players perform well.
Some things I noticed: Players IMMEDIATELY making a 180 on a turnover looking for the up-ice pass. Better, smarter passes. Actually camping out in front of the goal instead of behind it. Speed. Pooch and Reirdon actually talking to each other on the bench as well as to the players.
Cepis and a couple others sat out this game for disciplinary reasons and Cepis is touted as the best of the Freshman class. Some of the upper classmen have stated that Solway, Sexton, and Cepis as a line have been nothing short of dominating in practice and if they stay together....well, you get the picture.

Tough to know that for sure at this juncture. I have no clue if Windsor is worse or better than last as it pertains to how good or bad we are, but I thought they looked improved from last year. Speed seemed pretty good, but I guess we'll see how fast when we play ND in a few. I'd like to see how we hold up against a big team than is actually talented. Windsor had some big players but were either too slow or just not as good our as our players. When we hit CCHA play we'll get big guys with speed and good talent.dforde wrote:Even though we beat Windsor 12-1, this is the worst Windsor team I have seen in years. They were awful. I'm guardedly optimistic about this season. Don't think we'll finish in the top 5 but we (hopefully) shouldn't finish at the bottom either. Our biggest problem this year could be youth and inexperience.

Windsor vs MSU 6-0, Windsor vs BGSU 12-1, Windsor vs Western Michigan 5-3.
apparently they aren't as bad as we saw.
Recap:
How about UNH losing to New Brunswick..sad the VanRiesdak only one to show up
MSU gets pounded by the "real" UND 6-0
Ferris swept by Union
Miami looked solid against Vermont in a sweep
Michigan beats BC by 1 loses to Minnesota by 1
Notre Dame got pasted by Wisconsin
OSU looked great against that same UW team.

I vented at Brian from marketing about the "Goalie" "Sieve" & "It's all your fault cheers on the cards. He said it was hockey tradition----I SAID NOT BG HOCKEY TRADITION :
we count goals & the yell Go , go ,go & point at the other goalie who just let the red light shine on the back of his neck. We should be YELLING for BG -----not sounding like every other team's crowd we've ever seen. Did they ask anyone who follows BG hockey what the traditions were?--NO plus I was told I was the only one who complained about the cheers.
They just want to get everyone yelling the same thing.
The guys looked great ---already planning road trips--- best of luck in NEW YORK and will see everyone Tues. 10/23 when ND comes to town. WE have a team which looks ready to take on anyone.

You probably were the only one who complained, but we in the student section took the much less direct approach and just threw away the cards. We were also about to start a "Sue Sue Sue" chan after some of those BG's

I was about to say the same thing. I just threw mine away...same thing I did for the football games. I'm an RA so I'm supposed to give them out to my residents... but somehow they found their way into the bottom of my trash can.The Niz wrote: You probably were the only one who complained, but we in the student section took the much less direct approach and just threw away the cards. Now I wasn't at the Windsor game (was at the volleyball game) but all this complaining about this chants card is kinda funny to me. The chants that you all have mentioned were on this card are all chants me and the people I go to the games with have done the two years I have been here (those I go with have been here longer then me, or are townies, so I would guess they have always done those). It seems to me is all they did was put chants they have heard students do on this card. Can't wait to actually see this card, granted I'll just look at it for a second before throwing it away, don't need a chart telling me what chants to do when I already do them.

You're right... sort of. They did put the "That's debatable" chant and the "Who's He?" chant on there (or so I've heard), but they also included a different goal chant than has been done in the past. They made it more like the MU/UofM chants with the "SIEVE" and "IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!" parts. That's the part I don't like.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:The chants that you all have mentioned were on this card are all chants me and the people I go to the games with have done the two years I have been here (those I go with have been here longer then me, or are townies, so I would guess they have always done those). I think, with the proper support, the "We want more!" goal chant could really catch on and become something. I was really hoping for that one to end up on whatever card they made for hockey. The only solution I can think of - make your own card/sheet and suggest that one and include some of the other lesser known chants on there.
All in all, though, I'd have to say the hockey cards are still better than the football cards.

A large group of people who all know the chant need to sit together and make sure they always do it after they announce the goal. I'm sure the reason it doesn't happen now is because no one knows it. All it would take is a few games of all of us who know it sitting together before people caught on to it again.

I agree, everything catches on better if you keep doing it. I know at the game a lot of people caught on to that chant (some didn't, but that takes time) and as the night progressed more people were shouting it.The Niz wrote:A large group of people who all know the chant need to sit together and make sure they always do it after they announce the goal. Actually MANY people know it...we just can't get enough NEW peoople to join in.....(Marketing Department...are you paying attention at all???...the "goalie/sieve" crap needs to go...we are NOT the weasels...thank God!!!)I'm sure the reason it doesn't happen now is because no one knows it. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Just thought I'd toss some opinions out there, since I'm never short on them
I hate the band. Sorry to those of you who were in the band. But it was completely useless and as was mentioned earlier in the thread, the kids always acted like they wanted to be elsewhere. So go elsewhere... or be there because you want to be there, not because you're getting class credit or you're being forced by the director or whatever. The band could potentially be a huge source of motivation and a rallying point, but for whatever reason, it's not. Or at least, it wasn't when I was there. If it were, I'd like it a lot better. Unless of course it was like Michigan's band--seriously, do those people know ANY songs besides Hail to the Victors?
As for the marketing dept., at least they're making some effort. Granted, I haven't been to a game at BGSU Ice Arena for a few years (ack! too long), but when I was a student, the marketing dept. only made an effort with hockey the spring semester of my senior year. One out of eight semesters. They were much too busy trying to hype up football. So if their efforts are misguided, keep the lines of communication open! Let them know what will and won't work. It sounds like you guys are trying to do just that, so I urge you to keep it up.
Hockey people are hockey people. Non-hockey people don't understand them particularly well. If the marketing dept. is making an attempt with the hockey people, give them feedback, they'll listen. I think you guys need to teach them to be hockey people! Don't tell them their efforts are wasted, because they'll just concentrate them elsewhere; tell them how to make their efforts better and how to better reach their intended audience.
