Kicked in the gut...
Listen my view maybe scewed because for the time I've been here at BG the mens program has been bad. Every game I've been to there has been 1 row of students on the floor mostly badgering the refs more than supporting their team. If I was here to see the glory days and the upsets I might have a different opinion. But seeing a sparsly peppered floor with students more interested in themselves rather than the game it bothers me.
I hope you get the chance to see the other Anderson Arena before you graduate and leave BG. It truly is an amazing experience. That UM game was my senior year (also McLeod's senior year) and we sold out at least 4 or 5 games that year. The big games you actually had to get a ticket or a wrist band ahead of time to ensure seating in the student section.Falcon137 wrote:Listen my view maybe scewed because for the time I've been here at BG the mens program has been bad. The whole student section was rocking and I hope it gets back to that again soon.

I feel like I have been gravely misunderstood on this whole students on the floor thing. I'm not suggesting they be removed or not allowed to stand down there. It is definately a great part of the feel in AA. I just really don't want to be a part of it anymore after some things that happened in the girls' season, particularly at the UT and Indiana games. During the men's season there usually wasn't even enough people there for it to matter who stood where anyways.
Soon none of this will matter because Orr will turn this team into a dominant force in the MAC and an annual contender in the NCAA. When that happens, there will be no more "hey look at me" because we will all be watching the team.

Yeah right girl!

This may or may not be a correlation...I'll let you all decide. Prior to the year that the university "horseshoed" the seating in the ice arena the glass was very low. So low, in fact, that the fans could reach over the top and high five the players quite easily. Fans had also been thrown onto the ice out of the crowd. It was pure pandemoneum and a hell of a lot of fun. When they added the seating to the north end they also raised the height of the glass (for liablility reasons among others). With the raising of the glass the link to the team became much less personal and the atmosphere that the team enjoyed for so many years has never quite returned. Its not horrible (come to a Michigan game, for example) but its just not what it was.
IMO if they move the students off of the floor the affect will be very similar.

When the team is good and AA is rocking, there's no better college basketball experience than AA. When the student section is full and loud, it's electric. We couldn't possibly have a better home court advantage. Cameron Indoor of the midmajors.

Fan behavior......
Metz and Niz really need to explain in more detail if possible what exactly is ticking them off so much they don't want to wear AA shirts be on the sidelines anymore. Yeah, there are some students who go over the top and get ridiculously crazy. There are students like that at every school. I honestly haven't been disturbed yet to the point I dont' want to be down there. I usually don't pay attention to what the other students are doing as I'm focused on whats going on the court.
Somebody said that at men's games most the sideliners are getting out of control and yelling at refs all the time. I don't why this would be any different at any other time except that it probably has been worse during these last few bad seasons. Fans are more likely to yell at refs more when things are going horrible. I haven't attended many mens' games lately, so I haven't known whats its like at those games. I hope it gets better. It'd be a shame to lose the sideline atmosphere and the effect it can have on the opposing teams.

I think that is the Kent game in which Anthony Stacey became the schools all time leading scorer. It's not the Michigan game as the floor is different. That Kent game with Stace getting the scoring crown was a fun one to be at. I remember being around him when Butch came out of the crowd and they embraced.ZiggyZoomba wrote:And one more shot from that Michigan game...
Here's the full-sized one of that.

Re: Fan behavior......
I don't think we need to explain. We stated our reasoning for not standing down there and said we don't want to be affiliated with certain things. That seems good enough to me. No one put you in charge of knowing all.Falconboy wrote:Metz and Niz really need to explain in more detail if possible what exactly is ticking them off so much they don't want to wear AA shirts be on the sidelines anymore.
Try watching a game without headphones in though...you might hear more...

Actually, I think the B&W Grant posted *is* the Michigan game, and the one Metz posted might be the Kent game. I don't think Michigan has ever had such a bold yellow (maize, if you will) stripe down the side of their shorts that you can see in the color pic.
Either way, I made it up for both games, and each one was AA at it's absolute finest.

Absolutely. It's kind of our unique 'niche' in the MAC. No matter how much people complain about the parking, the bathrooms and everything else, they will show up if/when the team wins and create an unbelievable atmosphere and home-court advantage.BleedOrange wrote:OK. 2B fair, you know not what you say.Falcon137 wrote:Listen my view maybe scewed because for the time I've been here at BG the mens program has been bad. Nebraska tried to 'modernize' their unique college football program to be just like everyone else and it blew up in their face.
And you'd be thinking wrong. Go to the full-size pic and you can clearly see it says "KENT" across the front of the jersey of #12, defender coming across the lane at the foul line.TG1996 wrote:Actually, I think the B&W Grant posted *is* the Michigan game
