I'm worried that we've maxed out our donors with the football and hockey projects, not to mention the tens of millions of dollars that were poured into non-athletic means as part of the Building Dreams campaign.
A new basketball/hockey/convocation/whatever facility should have been and should be Priority #1 for the University, not just the athletic department.
We're going to need help from the state (a risky proposition, I know), and that means having Sidney and the Board of Trustees step up and exert whatever infleunce they can over the decision makers who hold the keys to the coffer.

We're a 20,000 student university. That figures that we probably graduate 3000-5000 kids a year, and that's probably been the case for awhile now . Something tells me that there are potential donors out there who just haven't been asked properly in the past.JoeFalcon wrote:I'm worried that we've maxed out our donors with the football and hockey projects, not to mention the tens of millions of dollars that were poured into non-athletic means as part of the Building Dreams campaign.

I'm confident that somewhere there is money to be had without going to beg for cash from the state...which would likely be a futile endeavor anyways.

I can't believe you mentioned Jessica Alba without posting a pic.hammb wrote:If anything we've heard over the past 5 years are any indication I'd say the chances of that are somewhere between winning the powerball and me dating Jessica Alba.VDub26Falcon wrote:What are the chances they are thinking of doing a basketball/hockey arena???

If I can believe what I've heard... GC and his boys are taking the students wishes to heart. The students WILL be "right on top of the floor" at the new place, though the "new place" is actually Eppler Gym.

Wowsers! Look at the shorts on those guys. In this day and age, shorts like that would get you arrested.
Eppler was where we played our home games until AA.

As I posted awhile back, there are a few plans the university is looking at:hammb wrote:Realistically, we're looking at a long fundraising campaign before construction can even begin. Of course we started the Sebo Center before funding was completely secure, so who knows.
1. Basketball facility ($$$)
2. Basketball/Hockey facility ($$$$$$)
Right now, they are looking at the costs and how much they can raise in private donations to make either one a reality. This is the silent phase (which is why you have not heard anything more since the company we hired to review ALL of our athletic facilities submitted their report).
My feeling is the AD does not want a facility like the Schottenstein Center with ice beneath the basketball floor. As I understood him, the second proposal has a separate area for the ice. I believe he would like to see #2 come to fruition.
I honestly believe you will see a new facility as Dr. Ribeau WANTS a convocation center. I think this will be his crowning achievement before he leaves the university. He has a daughter, who I believe is a sophomore at the high school, and I do not see him leaving the university until she graduates. So we have another 2 1/2 years (at least) with him at the helm. I am POSITIVE he will accomplish this.

I think it was 1954 or so. I dug it out of the timeline pics from the 1950's at bgsualumni.comGlobetrotter wrote:What year is that from, one of those might be my dad, No joke. But it is funny.

That would be great, but suppose we only have "$$" available.transfer2BGSU wrote:As I posted awhile back, there are a few plans the university is looking at:hammb wrote:Realistically, we're looking at a long fundraising campaign before construction can even begin.
