10-18 Niagara

Niagra at a glance Lost to Merrimack 2-4
and beat Holy Cross 6-2, they are enjoying a 17game home wining streak right now (from last season that is).

We got our feet on the ice last weekend and beat Windsor big. I dont see us crushing niagra like that, but i do see us playing to another Falcons hockey win say 4-2.

2-0 Niagara. :? Not good. Don't know good Niagara is but they're not CCHA level talent at all. Youth probably will be our bane this year. We got speed but not sure how it will be enough this year. That Windsor game wasn't really all that telling of how good we'll be. A few more games will us more.

Did you listen to the broadcast? Niagara has aan 18 game unbeaten streak at home (16-0-2). They're no pushover...

We out shot them and out played them....we just couldn't solve the goalie.

Yes, Niagara's home unbeaten streak is the nation's longest. I'll be more than happy with a split out of this trip. Let's finish a few tomorrow night and put it in the net. GO FALCONS!

I guess so. I honestly thought we'd get a 2 pt win rather easily , but I guess I got caught up in that big Windsor win too much I guess.

I listened to most of game at work and we seemed to play pretty well, just couldn't get anything past their goalie. Their two goals were both of the garbage variety, rebounds... Sounds like we need to clear the front out better and get to the front in the other teams end better....that's basically what I took from the broadcast anyway. Game we could have easily won or at least tied IMHO...

I think everyone is giving Niagra more credit than it deserves. Aside from beating Colgate,Quinnipiac is really it's only strong win. The 18 game home win streak means little when your playing in the CHA. This is the same team that Nebrask-Omaha slaughtered 10-1 last year. They even struggled this year in thier preseason game against York. York is usually laughable in the CIS. I think anything other than a weekend sweet is falling short.

BG 5 Niagara 2
BG 3 RIT 1
Dave Ellett is a hero. A Bowling Green Falcon and a Former Jet and Maple Leaf. What more can a Winnipegger ask for.

Did anyone else happen to watch this game? We did and BGFan hit the nail on the head with his last statement. My observations as well:

Jimmy played very well - even stopped a 2 on 0 - can you say "STONED!!"?
Cepis is absolutely legit!! Reminded me a little of a couple of earlier 19's
Power play - put the stinkin puck on the net. Too many passes waiting for the perfect opportunity. Thomas Holmstrum?
Their goalie - time after time we found ourselves.....
Defense and transition game - played well for the most part (see shots on goal stat)

As we have all said in the past (see football forum as well :) ) the next couple of games will tell alot. Especially vs. ND
Forever a Falcon!!

First I have to agree when it comes to Niagras home stand win streek, it consists of teams like RIT and Wayne State, Holy Cross...not your A tier programs. however Niagra is one of the only programs that is D1 in all sports in that conference and een there are rumors they will join the wcha next year as part of the wcha auto bid solution, they still play who they play and its not CCHA top caliber teams. that said it is good to hear from folks who actually watched the game! I wish I could have seen that 2-0 and some of Jimmy's other saves, he has improved so much.
From what it sounded like to me on the raido, none of the goals that in were SOFT, and that if our D picks up a just a little bit more they wont likely happen agaiin, IS THIS WHAT YOU FOLKS AT THE GAME SAW? The Teams overall speed, how would rate it....were we out skating them, right to the end?
It was good hear we getting alot of shots at the net, some night they just dont make past the line...tonight should be exciting as well.
My thought is that we will know how we match up in the CCHA on 11/3 at about 930 when we have 3 league games under our belt.

IS THIS WHAT YOU FOLKS AT THE GAME SAW?

It seemed to me that the ice was "tilted" in one particular direction all night. And that direction pointed to a young man with lots of pads on and dressed in purple. :D

Reading this I can't help but think about our team a few years ago. There were many games that we flat out got outplayed and our goalie kept us in the game. We even stole one from #1 MSU a couple years ago. Shutout win 1-0 in Munn. Yeah, a loss is a loss and they suck, but don't get too down on this team yet. The season has barely begun. The Windsor game was pretty impressive. They actually looked like they were having fun. Tuesday will show us what this team is really made of.

That 1-0 win at #1 MSU was more than a "couple" of years ago....we had a freshman goalie and I believe the goal was scored by another freshman...who is now an assistant coach at Alabama-Huntsville.
