Something else to ponder...

I was thinking last night about the last couple weeks.

Two things came up that I hadn't considered...

1) This team is still pretty young. Is it possible we have a maturity issue and thought after the 3-1 start that the team was "unstoppable"? Did some of the players become cocky?

2) This is game #7....and the FIFTH road game out of 7. Don't kid yourself...that traveling takes a toll on the team.

The nice thing is after the Kent game, BG has 3 of the last 5 at home.

Get a win at Kent and things will look a lot better than a couple days ago.

Any thoughts?

Win and you set yourself up for 2 winnable games at home and a good shot at EMU on the road. This game is the season, as many have said. I think the momentum this team can carry from a big win this week will be huge, and a 9-3 record still isn't out of the realm of possibility, things just need to change this week for that to happen.

EMU is barely a road game for me...I'm like 20 minutes or so from Ypsilanti.

If we can pull out a win in a difficult matchup on Saturday, we might be able to put something together over the rest of the season. I think the talent is there, and if Brandon is serious about balancing out the offense, we have the talent to be a force on that side of the ball.

If it's another tough day Saturday, I think the season might get ugly again.

1. I agree, we’re young and that could certainly be the case here with us this season. I would say I thought of that scenario more for last year, but that’s certainly debatable. But in hindsight, two short years ago we were absolutely loaded and by far the clear-cut favorite in the MAC and even tabbed as a possible BCS buster, and we limped to a 6-5 season. Jacobs’ injury was a major setback in the WMU & Akron games, but we still had a lot of talent that year and we had chance to win the Akron and Toledo games that we lost at home. We should have been much better that year with all that talent and leadership.

2. I also agree and this situation could certainly be taking a toll on us. But what’s more to me is not only the number of road games but the way these games are stacked up against us this year. I don’t necessarily mind the back-to-back BCS road games to open the season with a bye to follow, but having a mid-season non-conference game on the road against a Top-25 team – followed by road games against MAC East challengers Miami and Kent State followed by a game against defending MAC East Champion Ohio is an absolutely killer.

Agree, 33. The MAC certainly did us no favors with the scheduling this season. This has been a meat grinder of a sked so far. Gotta suck it up and get outta Kent with a win...MUST win Saturday.

Honestly, Kent is the best team we play the remainder of the season. After this week, we have two very ordinary teams in Ohio and Akron, followed by a terrible EMU team and the slumping Turdledo Rockets. The wild card there is Buffalo, but again, I think they've evaded the tough competition in conference and they'll fall back eventually.

Even if we lose this week, if the game is close and we fight hard, you could make a case that we could still go 7-5 with 3 home games out of 5 left, and 1 road game that might as well be a neutral site game in Ypsilanti. We'll put about 4K of our fans into Ypsi that night I have a feeling. We came fairly close to outdrawing Akron in their own house last year, I figure we'll do the same at EMU come November 9.

Good point and very true. While the MAC title would likely be out of reach, if we could win out, a possible bowl game could still exist. Looking at the games at Miami and Kent State a couple weeks ago, I was hoping at worst for a split. I felt we had the better chance of a win at Miami, but after falling the way we did in Oxford, it really has me worried about Kent State - and the rest of the season for that matter. What worries me the most is if we do lose to Kent State, that it could break our back. I hope like hell it doesn’t happen, but if it does, I could see us coming home from BC, Miami and Kent State with our tail between our legs and roll over and play dead against Ohio the next week and then just go through the motions the rest of the way out as in recent years past.

Crazier things have happened though, like a couple years ago when Akron looked dead in the water and made a late run and got all kinds of help from other teams. BG needed just one of seven final MAC games to go its way in terms of a tie-breaker to allow BG to go to the MAC Championship game, and all seven games ended not in our favor and went Akron’s way. Unbelievable! I guess all we can do is wait to see what happens at Kent State and go from there. I just hope we get things turned around, and fast.

I wouldn't call EMU terrible this year. They will be a difficult game as they only lost to Michigan 33-22. No game is an easy win for this team at this time. Take them one game at time...

TAKE DOWN KENT tomorrow and then we'll get ready for the next game.

I agree that EMU will not be a pushover, as parity rules in this MAC. No one is an easy game like the past, not Temple, not EMU and not Buffalo. As far as your Michigan example though, no team plays down to the level of their competition like Michigan. UM narrowly beating EMU says more bad things about Michigan than good things about Eastern.

True, but I was pointing out that EMU can play with almost anyone on any given day. We need to show up EVERY game and earn the win...no matter who the opponent.

Teh O line is all 5th year Sr...right? I dont think its at all maturity issue on the part of the players....look at the O....look at the play calling...look at our formations and you call where the play is going..if you can...you can bet the D can.
dont know what to tell you about our D...at times the light is on..others its out...there must a be short somewhere along the way.
