First, BG rushed for 197 net yards and passed for 184 net yards. To me, that is balanced.

Second, the BG band had a presence there. Metz and crew blew away the KSU band by fully entertaining the mass of orange with many renditions of AZZ and FF...I love when those guys do that.

...Why do we get our @$$es handed to us against Miami, and then Miami loses to Temple?

Cuz these are kids 18-22, in most cases. It can be a grind on the mind going thru a 12 week season. They have classes and school work to deal with in addition to all it takes to being a college athlete...one is even an awesome Daddy to his 3 year son. Plus, this team has been on the road 5 weeks out of 7 to start the year...games in Minnesota, Masschusettes, Michigan...it wears on the brian. Some home cookin is just what these guys need. ROCK OU>

I knew all week Temple was gonna beat Miami. Good thing we played the Owls when we did cuz they are vastly improved...and will get better.

Jacobs4Heisman wrote:The onside kick was the right call. Kent wasn't ready for it, and we almost got it. Just a bad bounce. I loved that call as it happened. It's weird that on days like these, Brandon takes almost every opportunity to express his ballsiness, and on other days it looks like he's completely allergic to risk of any kind.

Yet again, the best "word" I can think of to describe a Brandon-coached team is Schizo.
Actually, if you were watching the video feed or listening to Bill Needle give the play-by-play call you'd know that Kent was ready for the onside kick.

I hate to harp back on the onside kick but....

I'll first point out that it seemed odd, but I don't completely disagree with the strategy of calling for the onside kick. What bothers me is that Kent had their hands team out there, as pointed out by the Kent radio team on the video broadcast I was watching. If they send their hands unit out abort the call and kick it deep. What is doubly troubling to me is how did they know we were going to do that and have their hands team ready??

Kent wasn't ready for it. They had their normal kickoff team in, or at least their normal formation. If they had a hands team in, it certainly wasn't a very good one as it bounced right off the hands of a flash before somebody else ran over and jumped on it.

I'm sorry, I don't want to be misunderstood at all. I'm not taking ANYTHING away from the gameplan that was put together for yesterday's game. I think Brandon & staff deserves mucho praise for everything that went down yesterday. The team was ready to play emotionally and physically. They had a great gameplan that mixed the pass & run right from the get go. A fake punt, ballsy Onsides kick, and great trick play on the pass back were wonderful calls, all at the right time...oh yeah good call on the late FG as well.

I don't want this to be a damned if you do damned if you don't situation, because I don't think that's the case...at least not with me. I'm not going to lie that the first thing I thought of listening to the start of yesterdays game (and the success we had right from the first drive) was where has this been, but that takes nothing away from it. My only point is that this single game is not evidence that we should go out and give Brandon an extension right now. My point is that we've seen plenty of these sorts of performances before and I wish we could see them on a more consistent basis. My beef is that I think this team is capable of playing to this level...we are more more talented than just about anyone else in our conference and I just wish we could play like that more consistently.

I think that's just what angers me so often. I see games like yesterday's where coach Brandon looks like a damn fine coach, but then we see stinkers like last week. The potential is there for this team, and Temple gave them a helping hand. We still don't control our own destiny but I think if we can win out we'll be in very good shape for a bowl game and potentially winning the East. That would make for a very successful season. If we get more performances like that out of Willie Geter this offense could be unstoppable again like that of '03-'04.

That is exactly why I started this thread. Why? Why do we have such high peaks and low valleys? Why can't we get out of our own way at Miami and then come into Kent and look like world beaters? We know this team has the talent to play with anybody on any given weekend. Not knowing which team will show up each week has to be a result of poor coaching and preparation. I don't buy the 18-21 year old kids excuse. How do other programs and coaches deal with the same age group and avoid the let downs. Why didn't we experience this frustration when Urban was here?

Again, I give the players all the credit in the world for the great effort at Kent. Let's hope we can bring that effort every game the rest of the season.

Other teams don't avoid letdowns? Rollo, have you watched any college football this year? It is happening all over the place. Does that mean most coaching staffs in America can't get their teams up at times?

And as far as Urban, he was bushwacked by NIU and USF in 2002...he was only here two years.

I think Urban is a great motivator but even he has had teams with letdowns.
