More 2009 commits??
I agree whatever attracted them to BG at first should still be there next year or later this year whenever they decide to commit. I really didn't want to get too personal with the kids because I really don't know them that well. They saw me with some BG gear on and the conversation just went from there. They sounded real excited about Coach Orr and Coach Jackson and what they hope they can achieve. Around the city there are some haters thinking that these kids can do better than a MAC school. But I think that is Chicago Bull! Whoever follows the high school basketball recruiting trail like I have lately has seen the trend of all the top talent flocking to one school (Ohio State being an exception last year), it's all about getting to the next level and playing time. Why do you think alot of guys are interested in Memphis and Louisville? That's because Pitino and Calipari have been in the NBA and have connects. Coach Orr has also been in the NBA and may still have contacts of his own. Only time will tell.
Dayton and Xavier signed 2 of the top 10 Ohio Prospects in Chris Wright and Dante Jackson so anyone who thinks Ohio St. is getting all the players is mistaken.
Louisville is a program rich in tradition that was a top tier program long before Patino with Denny Crum, they have terrific fan support and great tradition same with Memphis. Having a coach with NBA ties is somewhat of a plus but it's not important to being a good recruiter and getting top tier players.
Schools like Gonzaga, Southern Illinios, Crieghton, Xavier, Dayton are all Mid-Major schools with no NBA connections but have winning traditions. Miami is the prime MAC example. Charlie Coles has bought into that University and they've bought into him, they are in my opinion what BG should shoot to be.

I'm not sure that's even an opinion call. I think its safe to say its just, plain moronic.

The whole idea of colleges going after 8th graders completely creeps me out. Scrutinizing and approaching kids that age seems exploitive of them and very undignified by the coaches. I don't know if this the appropriate word, but it almost seems predatory.
Vince Baldwin and Prepspotlight.com put a lot of focus on 8th graders in their scouting, often prioritizing this age level over the juniors and seniors. That's one piece crap I'll never need to see again.

You recruit a kid that plays against JH talent and has not demonstrated academic skills at the HS level - what are you really recruiting? I would suggest this is the desperate ploy of a coach about to be unemployed. Any coach that attempts to recruit players at this age should be unemployed.

You obviously haven't seen me. I have NO problem with looking in the mirrors at my house. They've all shattered long ago.FalconTurf wrote:And you should.h2oville rocket wrote:Yeah, I want that early relationship with seventh graders. I know what you're saying, but I'd have a hard time with that mirror everymorning.

Darren Goodsen is still committed and is just waiting until November so he can sign. Word is that the other committ Cortez Howell is not doing so well but his high school coach is keeping him on the straight and narrow. Goodsen averaged 17ppg and 5rebs for the season. There high school team lost in the first rounds of the playoffs.
