We will have 12 guys. Do not forget Patrick Phillips :D He may not get a lot of playing time but he is still on the team!

This thread is starting to resemble my high school golf team and two of our common phrases:

-If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas

or the one I prefer . . .

-If your aunt had . . . well you know the rest.

My point is . . . This year is based off of nothing but If this happens or but we could do this . . . No, here are the facts . . .

1. Right now, Coach Dakich has supposedly deemed a kid who is 5'9" the starting point guard despite waiting until August to commit. Can 5'9" PG be effective in the MAC? Absolutely. Is he a better option than Floyd? God I hope so.

2. Steven Wright and Austin Montgomery at 2. Wright's situation is tenuous at best. His two best friends have left the program and if he is making "continued progress" towards a degree, he would still have 2 years of eligibilty left even with a transfer. Honestly, I don't expect Wright to be back, but I hope he will. Montgomery doesn't need added bulk, it would make him slower on defense which would be quite a feat. There's two things that make him a D-1 player. He's a true 6'4" and can hit shots in transition. If you're asking for anything more, you're going to be disappointed.

3. John Reimold and Mawi Soler. Reimold is a wonderful shooter, but a defensive liability especially when teams push the ball. Soler is an unknown. He may be great, he may have the obvious JUCO holes in his game.

4. Cory Eyink. If he wants to be the Marion Local Cory Eyink, fine 14-16 wins are conceivable. If he wants to roam the 3pt line like last year and give you next to nothing on defense, we're looking in single digits.

5. Josh Almanson, Matt Lefeld and Scott VanderMeer. Probably our best position. Almanson has to come to play everynight. Lefeld has got to improve his stamina and VanderMeer has to give us 10-15 minutes a night at 4 or 5.

Germaine Fitch, who knows how well he can play after a third knee surgery. I hope for the best, he doesn't appear to walk with a limp, but time will tell.

This is definitely a team full of "ifs and buts"

I've noticed this before about his waiting until August to commit. Why does this even matter?

Actually, I found your post to be pretty encouraging, Option! I think there's some promise there... Amongst all this "change" I'd forgotten about who we have left! It's not a bad crew at all. IF everything falls into place, we could be pretty competitive, if not one of those teams who sneaks up and wins some games people don't think they should... Remember too, most people will probably be selling us short and looking past us.

Again though, you left out Pat Phillips! He could TEAR IT UP against Danbury-Lakeside!

I'm hoping that Robinson's delay in committing has no bearing on his potential . . . I hope he is the player that the press clippings say he is. The point is rarely do you find a starting point guard in August that starts class 3 weeks later.

We do have a lot(of players) coming back Grant. I think we're going to be challenged to score points and a lot of them and does that really translate well into our offense?

Generally the reason recruits wait so long is because they have no offers from schools that they want to go to. The way it sounds with Robinson is that he didn't have a single D1 offer until we offered.

That said, I REALLY like what I've heard about him. I'm not somebody that thinks height is super important in the backcourt. I'll take a quick guy that can see the floor anyday. If he can play good on the ball defense and jump a passing lane or two even better. In short, I think quickness trumps size for a PG, especially in the MAC. Hopefully I'm right about this kid.

Generally, however, you don't find players with a whole lot of value still unsigned in August.

*There is the official scouting report, well as official as the Internet gets. I like speedy, ultra fast and heart as ways to describe him.

He's listed at 5'10" here, BGSU's release had him at 5'9".

Ron Lewis is being handled by his brother and his brother is making a big mistake by transferring Ron. Some people like to revisit their playing days thru others. Lime light can be the downfall of many. The path to hell was paved with good intentions.

This is exactly what the Athletic Dept. meant by its "investigation" of the transfer. If Ron's brother had any contact with ANYONE affiliated with a university or coaching staff before he was released then the next place Ron will be playing is the YMCA and not some of the schools that have been suggested.

I'm not sure if Lewis would be done, I think it would be the school/person doing the tampering that would get in trouble.

The school would get a slap on the wrist but Ron would be the one to pay the most severe consequences.

I believe we stated our release of Lewis was contingent on the results of the investigation. So, I suppose we could deny his release.

I haven't read it yet, but there's an article in the BGNews about Ron Lewis' departure.

I'm glad the author told me MLB stands for Major League Baseball when listing the major sports leagues. I always thought it was a football acronym for More Linebackers and found it funny to be listed in baseball stories. Now I understand.
