Sorry Bobio - this one kind of slipped by. At my age, no surprise. :(

This one is real tough for me for a number of reasons. Who to root for, where you are from, where you went to school, family members attending different schools, yada yada yada so with all that being said, I will do my best to present both sides of the story.

Me personally, I have and will continue to support Bowling Green State University as my #1 team because I am a proud alumnus and was raised in the great little city of BG. Secondly, I have and will continue to support Michigan as my "second" favorite team because I was born there (& my overall and total disdain for everything tOSU). When BG plays Michigan in any sport - BG is #1 - end of story.

Now for the flip side and this is where I struggle - "The OU Falcon" (who happens to be my son and with whom I am very proud!!) was born and raised in BG and who supports BG with every ounce of his being (thanks to me :-D ) graduated from OU. Should he not feel the same as I do and others on this board - see above - comment concerning "proud alumnus"?

Now don't get me wrond- this personal scenario worked out very well as far as we are concerned- it's just that I struggle at times when some on here state that you must support your school at all costs and at all times. Ryan (my son) wore everything he had that was Orange last year in Athens when we won :-D and therin lies the enigma wrapped in a riddle.

Respectfully submitted,
Forever a Falcon!!

A couple more logs on the fire:
BG grad goes to UT Law school
BG grad goes to UT Medical School
I would suppose they could root for both schools but could you imagine the half-and-half shirt?

I know about 10-15 people doing graduate work at UT who graduated from BG last year.

They all root for BG.

Yup, sure have. I went to grad school at Ohio State. It was in grad school where I learned to truly hate Ohio State sports, especially football. Just a bunch of of bug-eyed, slackjawed, knuckledragging, drooling morons yelling GO BUCKS as if there is nothing else in the world. I got my degree and blew out of Cbus as soon as I could. Now that I'm in NEO, I'm up to my ass in bandwagon-jumping zombies who went everywhere BUT Ohio State yelling GO BUCKS.

I LOVE it. I used to hate Michigan more than anything in the world, but OSU and their mouth-breathing fans have eclipsed scUM.

I went to Miami of Ohio for Grad School and nothing pleases me more than when BG beats them in something...anything, it doesn't matter.

Did it ever occur to anyone that some people go to school for an education and dont give a s**t about that schools sports teams????????

That IS what college is for, to get an education. I didn't go to BG for the football team. I couldn't care less about BG sports. I prefer smaller class sizes so I went to BG and for no other reason.

I gotta give it to you Tek, you make a lot of sense here. Smaller class sizes was one of the reasons I chose Bowling Green as well, along with $ considerations. It is also true that a lot of students at Bowling Green and other universities do not care about their schools' athletic programs. Those are facts and cannot be disputed. The problem is, I don't see what this has to do with the rest of the thread at large, especially having to do with Jay Crawford. If he did not care about Bowling Green's teams, why would he care about Ohio State's? Better question, if he did not care about Bowling Green's teams, why would he plug the Falcons when they are doing well? (a la football 2003-04, women's basketball 2007) THAT makes him sound like a complete bandwagoner. Either you're a fan, or you're not.

After last night

Post by BG fan in Toledo »

I grew up in BG also and was raised to despise Toledo. Everyone on this thread is putting down BG after last night, I will still support them (and OSU) no matter what, to the bitter end and won't get down on them because of a pittiful lost last night. Thank God for the Bucks, at least the Buckeyes make the football season interesting year-after-year!! Glad I have TWO teams that I can support - GO FALCONS AND GO BUCKS!!!! BEAT TOLEDO AND MICHIGAN!!!!

So quickly we forget JOHN COOPER when the end was always a train wreck!

I have always enjoyed the success at BG because it is so sweet after the suffering years. There is something special about following a team through their low points all the way back to the top of the MAC. We will return.

I dont care about Jay freaking Crawford. This thread had started getting off of the Jay Crawford topic a long time ago.. He cares about OSU because he was an OSU fan before he went to BG. I dont know why he plugs them when they win. I do not care.

In general, people go to BG who do not give a s**t about the athletics at that school.

There are people who go to BG for an education, were buckeye fans, or UM fans, or whatever their whole lives and that is who they root for. They dont care about BG football. not everyone who goes to OSU cares about OSU athletics. There are those people every where. It happens, who cares.

If you like BG atheltics then you root for them. There is no need to hate on those who dont care about BG athletics.

I hate to admit it but this is a great point. I have a friend who goes to Pitt and is not a huge Pitt basketball fan. He grew up in Dayton going to Dayton games his whole life and never cheered for anyone else. He chose Pitt because of it's med school not the athletics. He still roots for Dayton but obviously cheers for Pitt but his #1 team is UD.

BG is an example of kids wanting to come here for the College of Education or Pop Culture. Both are nationally recognized and attract kids who had never even heard of BG before they began there College search and just want to get a meaningful degree from a Nationally known school in certain departments.

The point being missed is the premise that, as an alumnus of BGSU, you support and back YOUR OWN. Be they student, alumnus, professor, or trustee.

That's why BGSU should be the FIRST choice in athletic support; not the second.

The premise is not accepted by some people. That's cool. Just know that I think it's completely moronic to believe this way. Those some people have a problem with MY opinion instead of the other way around.

Baseless flaming is now expected.
