Question

Post by The Niz »

When was the last time BG won a game where they were losing at the half?

I dont believe its happened since I came here in 2004. I know we have lost a couple in the second half, but have we pulled one out in the second half within recent memory?

I am not sure the second halves of football games are even worth playing anymore in BG. I have never wanted to leave any sporting even early but staying at that game tonight was absolutely miserable.

It wasn't miserable until Charles dropped that 2nd punt. Then it became 10x worse than miserable. Eff Zach Charles.

24, I know it sucks that Zach Charles muffed the punt after the D worked so hard to get the ball back for us but, c'mon. I'd like to see you in his shoes right now. Have you ever done something like that on this level? If your answer is no, then I'm sure that you have no idea how bad he feels about disappointing his teammates. Give him a break and show some class.

...You're right. I've been very hard on the guy tonight, and its mostly because deep down inside in my heart, I believe if he just catches it, the momentum we had at that time would've carried us to a win because OU aside from the one interception play couldn't stop us in the 2nd half. Maybe I'm way off base. Maybe we were a few plays away from f'ing up again like Metz said earlier and it wouldn't have even mattered.

To answer your question, there have been times where I've screwed up in the athletic arena, the academic arena, and the social arena. I'm young and I make mistakes. A mistake of this magnitude, I've had a few, though none of them have been on the athletic field so its hard to compare it to them. I guess hopelessness is the primary emotion you feel after a letdown performance like that, at least it is for me. Hopefully ZC can bounce back from this, with CP out it looks like he might get some time at receiver coming up here too.

We watchted the second half at a sports bar down here, so I missed most or all of what happened in the first half except for the score. However, while Zach may have dropped the punt that ultimately sealed our fate, those who are also back to help block for Zach made a pi$$ poor attempt at recovering the fumble as well. Zach was not the only one who or the only reason why we are all so upset this morning.

What were the reasons given why McRae's fumble on the instant replay wasn't overturned? On TV it was clearly a fumble, the pile was still moving and the ball came out, but we didn't have sound???

There was another play similar to this "fumble" midway throught the first half that Mitch and I saw very clearly (and I'm assuming QB's reference is to the play at the end of the game?). We were standing at the south endzone and witnessed a play where "Mack Ray" (someone should have gone up into the press box and told our announcer to get it right! :x ) was rolling on top of a pile, Dozier ripped the ball loose, we fell on it, the players started pointing in our direction and then the whistle blew????? OU ball, no discussion, and no replay. We just looked at each other in disbelief. Anyone else remember this play.

Anyone else remember the late hit out of bounce call in the second half against us? I was on the opposite side but did their qb even get touched? I thought that was a horrible call.

The announcers weren't too sharp, but it could have been doubt about who actually had possession.

Obviously it was a fumble, but there was no way to know what happened to the ball before Antonio Smith (or whoever it was) picked it up out of the pile. If someone had his hand around it briefly while on the ground, the play would have been dead at that point.

It seemed like Bowling Green might have had the ball even before Anontio picked it up, but there was no way to really know.

And, at the end of the day, these kind of calls are virtually never reversed, because a whistle is typically blown calling the play dead before someone gets possession.

A fumble can only be overturned if it is called a fumble on the field. If the refs call the player down, even if replay clearly shows the ball clearly is popped out, it can't be overturned. From what I've heard, they're instructed to call it a fumble if it looks questionable so it can be overturned if they're wrong.

Yes, I understand that, and yet they did review it.

I wonder if the rules are strictly as you say. For instance, if the ball is fumbled and recovered by the opposing team before the whistle blows, than that ought to be reviewable.

Typically, the whistle is blown before the fumble, unnoticed by officials, is recovered. In that sitch, it would be a crime to review, since it considers activity after the whistle.

But if the whistle wasn't blown until after the recovery, the play ought to be reviewable. And one of the things they migth want to review, if they can, is when the whistle actually blew.

I was actually hoping to get an answer. It wasn't intended to be a sarcastic comment.

This may actually be a reason why its impossible for us to get good crowds even when people are excited about the team. We don't ever have really great games in the Doyt. We either blow our opponents away, or we lose because of dumb mistake after dumb mistake.

I don't really care to watch either type of football. Its no wonder people like to watch OSU. Most Big 11 games are highly competitive and fun to watch, especially at the end of the season. There usually aren't many of these ridiculous muffed punts, trick plays with a reciever throwing deep accross the field, and porous defenses. If I were a fan I would be at all those games also.

High scoring games do nothing for me. Every sport I watch except hockey, I love to see great defensive battles. I wish the M.A.C. would start playing rudamentary, fundamental football.
