Going someone where this?HoopsFan wrote:You bitch that 6000 is too small and 10,000 is too big. Hmmm...
What size is EMU's convo? IIRC 8100 or so. HALF WAY IN BETWEEN.
Cry all you want, but that arena, like the one in Cleveland by the same architect or similar, is a nice facility.
PUT IT NEXT TO A PARKING LOT.
Put it in Rossford if you have to, but get it done.

5000 SEATS?
Of course this is going somewhere. Did the all caps give it away?
AA seated about 5100 when it was new. You had a chance to park in the Union Oval, and other spots on inner campus. As long as parking and not winning games continue to be an issue, you're going to have a tough time attracting the casual fan.
To duplicate AA in terms of size doesn't make much sense when you can add 3000 more seats now and cover concerts and graduations with the larger venue.

I didn't mean to insult you. The only places that they could build it would be out by the Doyt next to the parking lots. We all seemed to agree that EMU has a great arena but was way to big for what they needed. I get the feeling that most everyone minus BleedOrange wants an Arena at about 6-7k that backs up to the Doyt.HoopsFan wrote:Of course this is going somewhere. Did the all caps give it away?

Would that plan go along with what you are saying?

I don't want 10K but I don't want 6 either.
No, The EMU facility is about right. I like the idea of multi-use upper decks. A lecture hall out in lot 6 is probably worthless though.

I still have this glorious vision of the new arena where lot six overflow is now. A garden of glory providing the perfect transition between it and the open end of the Doyt. Obviously the much desired DLP statue would be the center peice for this garden. The traditions and gameday atmosphere born of something like this could finally be what brings perennial championships back to men's sports at BG.
Yeah right girl!

My ideal would be 9-10K. With that, I would want the ability block-off or hide the upper sections of unused seating during periods of low attendence to avoid the EMU/NIU effect.Falcon137 wrote:I didn't mean to insult you. I'm hoping that we don't build a hoops/hockey combo, as those facilities always have lousy basketball environments.
What I want more than anything, however, is for the students to remain on floor just like they are in AA.
EMU has been very bad for quite a while. It will be very interesting to see how the fans turn out there when they field contenders.

Having been to a few games through the years, and having to park BEHIND the music building area, why don't we do what Kent and (gasp) UT do? Run shuttle buses from the parking lot to AA and back...only problem I had at UT was last year's men's game...brutal cold outside and one of the three shuttles broke down..they sent us all inside to avoid frostbite and it took forever for two shuttles to do the work of three. My point is, it would provide a convenience for fans coming to games and reduce the complaints about the long walks to AA.Falcon137 wrote:HoopsFan wrote:You bitch that 6000 is too small and 10,000 is too big. Re: Good thing there are no students in this thread
I've been saying for years that they should have the Basketball parking at the Ice Arena and run a shuttle back and forth to AA for basketball games. It's unbelievably stupid to have the fans have to drive up & down the student lots looking for a parking spot on weekday games. It's equally unfair to the students who now have to park somewhere else for class.Class of 61 wrote:Falcon137 wrote:Having been to a few games through the years, and having to park BEHIND the music building area, why don't we do what Kent and (gasp) UT do? How much would it seriously cost to run a shuttle some 1/4 mile down Ridge St.? I have no idea why the Athletic Dept. hasn't started this yet.

They could limit access to Ridge so the shuttle would run efficiently. Have people wait in the ice arena hallway then board the shuttles and it would run pretty smoothly, I'd think. . .hammb wrote:Class of 61 wrote:I've been saying for years that they should have the Basketball parking at the Ice Arena and run a shuttle back and forth to AA for basketball games. It's about movement on the plan. More to come....doughash wrote:Someone I know that works for an architechtural firm out of Findlay has a meeting today at the University regarding the building of a new arena. I'm not sure if this is new movement on the plan or just another part of the feasibility study.
