But I respect Gregg Brandon enormously for seemingly tearing up the playbook last season in order to fit the tools he had. That was gutsy as all heck in my book.
It's encouraging that he seems willing to adapt year-to-year, but I'd prefer if he could adapt quarter to quarter and game to game a bit better. Also, when I see last year, I don't think "Man. What a gusty coach he is to change his offense so much". I think: "It's unacceptable that we've allowed our "tools" to drop off to the extent that we can no longer execute basic passing plays than many high-school offenses execute every Friday night.".
Back to the topic at hand, though. It seems a lot of people like the spread and think it can be the best offense for us. There are also an equal number of people that would like to seem a mix of spread and under center sets. I would love to see us utilize both and run/pass out of both. Not sure why we don't.
I think to run a both style of offense, we need to have a running back more of the size of Bullock. Geter is a great back, but he's only great when it comes to speed. Notice that he goes down basically on first contact. This is like Eric Metcalf when he played for the Browns. But, a running back with some size like Bullock I think would be better suited to a diversified offensive attack. He's got the ability to go up the middle, and he has decent enough speed to make it to the outside. This is why that injury to (insert name of JUCO transfer because I forgot his name) is disheartening. He has the power and speed, along with the hands. With him in the backfield, I think we possibly could have been running the ball more often.
I disagree about Geter going down at first contact. I saw him get whacked by 3 different players at MSU and bounced off like he was a pinball and kept going. I've seen Geter take some serious hits and keep going.
I do agree the injury to Ransom was HUGE> That kid has BiG time potential.

FALCON FOOTBALL ROCKS!
I would hope that within the next year or two we decide to mix in more plays from under center. The spread isn't that complicated to figure out, especially if the QB isn't mobile enough to create plays by himself. Teams have known what we're going to do since Omar was here, and I would guess that it's getting to be a tad predictable for other teams to defend. I think with some tweaking, things can be changed to offer some different looks without sacrificing productivity.
I may scream like a school girl if I ever seen Brandon come out in an I-formation. I never figured out why we didn't run it at least a couple times in the red zone. We got a good fullback, some good TEs, and a platoon of RBs.
I think what the football team/coaches ought to do is talk with/review what the BG Rugby team has done again ---- i.e., won their 27th straight MAC Title. I wonder why these nonscholarship guys, why this club team has been soooooooooo successful.

I'm with you Freak... the thing that impresses me the most about Geter is that he seldom goes down on the first contact. My daughter and I call him "the pinball" because he bounces off of people. I don't know that Laurel even knows what a pinbal is, but it sounds damn funny to a 6 year-old.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
