lol all this talk about Bowls...my god is the rewarding of average play that big a deal....we should only care about the MAC....Bowls suck..to many played at the wrong times with no real meaning. Sure there is money to be had, but realy...all this talk about getting bowl eligible is nonsense...when a win of the MAC title would be something. something that will not happen and should not happen they way the team is being coached and plays called right now.

You assume that "only a winning record" would earn a bowl bid....I don't think we go bowling at 7-5 regardless of the number of bids the MAC earns (ok, if we get like...7 then maybe) . Is winning the MAC this year a banner achievement? Winning a conference so awash in mediocrity that EMU and Buffalo are serious contneders is a banner achievement?NWLB wrote:Uh huh. Right. A bowl we get for not other reason than the rest of college football sucks and we get a "default" bid, is better than a MAC title?
A bowl is nice, however you get it. But I'd hardly hold it up as a banner achievement, when you only have to manage a winning record to get it. And BG hasn't done that yet.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Seriously though, I don't think we go bowlin' at 7-5. 8-4? Possibly. I thought anything less than 7-5 this year would be a disappointment. So, at 7-5 with no bowl is a success in my eyes. Sure, a bowl would be nice, but in this conference, 7-5 probably has you sittin' at home after Thanksgiving. I really think all this speculating is useless, because if things don't improve in a hurry, I question whether or not we can finish .500

I thought I'd update this.
Our season is not over. If the Falcons win out, they'll have eight wins. No team in the MAC can do better than that.
If the Falcons win two out of three, they would be eligible for a bowl game. And being eligible just might be enough for post season play, considering how the rest of the league is doing.
Teams with some margin of error:
Central Michigan (5-4): Must win two out of the next three: at Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, at Akron
Ball State (5-4): Must win two out of the next three: at Indiana, Toledo, at Northern Illinois
Bowling Green (5-4): Must win two out of the next three: at Buffalo, at Eastern Michigan, Toledo.
On life support:
Ohio (5-5): Must win next two: at Akron, Miami.
Miami (4-5): Must win next three: Buffalo, Akron, at Ohio.
Buffalo (4-5): Must win next three: at Miami, Bowling Green, Kent State
Toledo (4-5): Must win next three: Eastern Michigan, at Ball State, at Bowling Green
Doomed:
Kent State (3-6)
Eastern Michigan (3-6)
Western Michigan (3-6)
Akron (3-6)
Temple (3-6)
Northern Illinois (1-8)

Ok lets look at just the MAC EAST
Standing prior tot he BG win last night
1.Buffalo
2. Miami
3. BGSU
4.Ohio
5. Temple
6. Akron
7.Kent state
#3 BG vs #6 Akron Win For BGSU
#2 Miami Vs #1 Buffalo we loose the tie breaker with Miami but we need Buf to loose so we should hope Miami cleans them out and then looses to akron and or Ohio
and that we also win out...is this about right for wining the East?

Really to have a shot at winning the east, we just need to beat buffalo. The other two games are cross overs against EMU and Toledo, and I think we need to really be concerned with our record in the East only. Buffalo needs to lose to US and someone else at least (them beating Miami might be better for us, maybe, If they lost their other remaining east game). For BG to come out ahead of Miami, Miami has to lose 2 of 3 (buff, ohio, akron), because Miami beat us, I don't think we can tie them and win the east.MACMAN wrote:Ok lets look at just the MAC EAST

Thanks for the bowl update Schad, however to take this one step further - how much fun would it be if the following scenario worked out:Schadenfreude wrote:I thought I'd update this.

- We beat Buffalo and finish 4-2 in the MAC east
- Buffalo loses to Miami today and with our win and Buffalo's win over Kent, they finish 4-2 in the MAC east
- Miami wins today over Buffalo and then loses in Athens and they finish 4-2 in the MAC east
- OU wins at Akron and then beats Miami and they finish 4-2 in the MAC east.
Have much fun with that tie-breaker
Forever a Falcon!!
I think we end up losing that tiebreaker because we would be 1-2 against the other 3 teams. I would love to see who wins in that case, though.SicSic80 wrote:Thanks for the bowl update Schad, however to take this one step further - how much fun would it be if the following scenario worked out:Schadenfreude wrote:I thought I'd update this.

I think we need UB to beat Miami, BG over UB, Kent over UB, OU over Miami, and Akron over OU. That puts UB and BG with 2 East losses and OU and Miami with 3. We win the tiebreaker with UB and rip the Chips in the MAC title game.

Well, in the case of a 3-or-4 way tie, don't you look at the cross-divisional opponents you faced? We had this similar scenario with Miami and Akron tying us in 2005, and Akron went to the MACC because their strength of schedule of their cross divisional games was better than Miami's and ours. Now this year they may have changed it so that you just look at cross division record/overall MAC record and then if there are still ties to look at the strength of the cross division games.SicSic80 wrote:Thanks for the bowl update Schad, however to take this one step further - how much fun would it be if the following scenario worked out:Schadenfreude wrote:I thought I'd update this.

At least that's my understanding of it. 4-way tie though...geez. I would just hope in that scenario that they would take a 7-5 Bowling Green/Miami team instead of a 5-7 Buffalo/Ohio. How much of a joke would it be if we sat at home at 7-5 while a 5-7 team played for the MAC Championship?
24. Quality provider of the truth, for better or for worse.
Here's what I think is the best chance of us winning the east:
Buffalo beats Miami today.
Miami loses to Ohio, giving them 3 losses in the east.
Kent beats Buffalo, taking out aggression at home after losing the last two to Buffalo in rather embarrassing fashion.
We beat Buffalo and have the tie breaker over them.
The top few would be:
BGSU 4-2 (with win over UB)
UB 4-2
Miami 3-3
I know its a lot to have to happen but it is possible. It could also happen if Miami wins today, but Miami would then need to lose to both Akron and Ohio, and I don't see Akron beating Miami. But you never know.

MarkL has spoken.
You may all now return to your daily lives.
You may all now return to your daily lives.
You're missing OU in this scenario. They have 3 MAC losses with one being at UT, which is irrelevant for divisional purposes (I think). Assuming they beat Akron next week, OU would finish at 4-2 in the East under your scenario. That would put BG, UB and OU at 4-2 and each team would have one win against the other two. No clue what the tiebreakers are after head to head. Maybe Rick Chryst gets to draw a name out of a hat or simply pick his favorite institution. First thing, go Bulls!!MarkL wrote:Here's what I think is the best chance of us winning the east:
