GB has his moments, just not enough of them to matter in the games we need them the most.

I don't think it was as much as Brandon getting his players ready to play as it was Akron coming into the game not being ready to play. They (Akron) played like BG did last week. BG's defense still looked pathetically slow and proved that they still can't stop a scrambling quarterback. The jury on Brandon is still out.

No...the coaches did a good job of preparing the defense to stop Arthur and Williams, Akron threw a scrambling QB out there at the last minute instead of the usual starter. Jackson ran for 120, but they were the most quiet 120 yards I've seen aganst us. Other than that drive near the end of the half that ended in a fumble, I didn't feel that Akron's offense presented enough of a threat to actually get back into the game.

Good job by the coaches on both sides of the ball...

No, Akron shot themselves in the foot time and time again, much the same as BG did last week. If BG had played OU the same way that they played Akron last night, the end result might well have been a BG win. In the MAC, the parity is such that the team that makes the fewest mistakes wins. That's the way it's been to date, anyway. I think the BG coaching people did a great job of getting the right replacement players into the game. Getting Turner involved in a more consistent and novel way. for example, made a huge difference. I still see a sluggish (slow) defense , however, and that will probably continue to hurt BG. You can't teach speed. It's a genetic thing.

The defense kept Akron out of the endzone on their first two drives and then forced two turnovers inside the 30. They kept the ball out of Akron's best offensive players hands by doubling him on just about every play. Jackson got his yards between the 20's, but on a compressed field he couldn't find an open reciever and he didn't have as much room to manuever. This wasn't just a case of Akron self destructing. We defended them well

So far as the speed on defense goes......I can't disagree more. Speed is the least of our problems. We tend to overpursue the ball and we leave a lot of room for guys to cut back on us...that's a bigger problem particularly against a running QB.

What "D" WE CAN NOT TACKLE

Post by 60yearsofsicsic »

This team will get killed by any team that has a power running game. They can not make tackles until someone is 8 to 10 yards down field. Akron just did not have the ability to punch it in. I am also extremely concerned about Haeline he is by far our best tackler and he left the game with an injury. Does any one no his status?

The offensive coaching was superb last night. The defense looked to have the same problems as before, but Akron was just way to incompetent to take advantage of it.

The offense, though. Whooo. We need that play-calling/gameplan every week.

That was the best the offense has looked in about 2 years IMO.

We held a team to two FG in the first half. I see that as a vast improvement over the past few games. But, but, but, but what if we play a different team with a different offense, then we will suck again. For cripes sake, we just played a good all around football game, can't people just talk about that instead of trying to shoot holes in the team. Peole complained that we didn't do this or that against Ohio. We did all the right things against Crackon. Can't we all just give this team a little love?

Amen...I don't know what people are bitching about today...we let their QB run around for some meaningless yards between the 20's and took away everything else...shoot, I guess they'll just have to try for perfection next week.
