Trends and streaks we must break/reverse

Post by 1987alum »

Just fodder for discussion since I can't really concentrate on work. :)

 The Falcons haven't won in Toledo in, what, five tries? That means it's been a decade since we won in the Glass Komode.

:?: When was the last time BG won an important MAC game ... on the road?

:?: BG wins and gets a bowl bid. When was the last time BG went to a bowl game in consecutive seasons?

:?: Corollary - When was the last time a MAC coach took his team to a bowl in his first two seasons a head coach?

87 - You are one of a few individuals on this board who's predictions I take to heart. What do you think will happen on Tue. night? A big BG victory, a close game, at UT victory??? Can we beat these guys on their turf??

This is a huge game for our program. A win and we go bowling. A loss and we go home. I have not seen us play well in these big road games over the past few years. I hope Brandon and his staff has these guys UP for this contest. I think we can win it but we have to stay focused and completely confident that we can execute. We have to protect Omar and shut down the UT offense and finish all the tackles. Can we do that???I sure hope so....A lot riding on this folks....

This is a lot tougher call than most of use will admit. As much as we all dislike Toledo, you can't argue with the fact that they consistently win a lot of games and, more importantly, have had the Falcons' number in the Glass Komode for the last five trips. Add to that how long it's been since we won a big MAC roadie. We beat Toledo last year, but it was a relatively close game and we were at home.

In the final analysis, I say we win this game. I don't see it as a blowout, though. I'd put the score at something like BG 41, Toledo 31.

The absolute key to this game will be momentum. If the Rockets jump out to a quick lead and our offense gets out of its rythym, we could be in for a long night. If we control the tempo, we're going bowling.

Right. We will prove a lot if we win Tuesday.

I'm nbot too worried about them getting out early on us. Hamstutz tends to play it pretty closely in the early going against better teams. They'll take the first couple of drives to establish their running game. If we can hold them and get our offense on the field, we have a chance to force them out of the running game.

It's much easier to stop them if all they're looking to do is pass.. (as it is with any team)

UT is a second half game from what I've seen. They just try to keep it close in the first half then do all their adjustments in the second half.

That worked out really well for them last year against us. If I remember correctly the score was something like 10-7 and then we scored on our first three possessions after the half.

I agree that this will be a helluva game and might not be decided until late in the fourth quarter. If that happens, the fact that we haven't had to do a "gut ckeck" late in a game recently worries me.

I disagree that Numnutz will be conservative in his play calling early on. If he does that, he knows he might be facing a large deficit by half time like Marshall did. He'll mix in the run, but he knows he has to score to have any chance in this game. Brucie through the air gives him his best chance to score with us. Running the ball and conservative play calling will allow us to load the line of scrimmage and give them some "3 and out" senarios.

I also think that win or lose or resume is strong enough for a bowl invitation. I don't want to leave any doubt and beat the Rockets, but given the jumbled state of bowl eligible teams we get an invite no matter what.
