Akron game balls...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Well now! So many fine performances Friday night...so many deserving playas. Here are my 3...

1) AT. Rushed for over 100 yards, passed for a TD and caught a few passes...not to mention LEVELING a Zip defender trying to chase Sheehan down. AT did it all...and I am juiced for him to be getting this involved.

2) PJ Mahone. 2 picks including a pick 6 in which he looked like a great RB. Mahone also added 10 tackles. PJ leads the team in picks now with 5 and averages 36.4 yards a return.

3) Chris Wright. Wright is quietly making a name for himself and chipped in 5 receptions for 83 yards and his first collegiate TD. With CP out, Wright was a guy who stepped up and contributed.

3A) Have to give a shout out to Neal Dahlman and Derek Brighton. Neal won the starting LS job as a true frosh and has been solid all year. Brighton filled in as holder for CP and did an excellent job as Vrvilo was 5 of 5 on XP's and 3 of 4 on FG's. Brighton has done well as a WR, too.

One last thing...I was surprised to see almost 13K for attendance. Considering all the factors leading to dismal attendance and the fact Akron doesn't bring squat anytime, I didn't think I'd see over 10K. Sure it was still only half full but that's better than 2005 when 9K showed up for the Akron game.

Time to roll EMU!!!

Mike, Good point on the attendance bit...I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people on the EAST SIDE for a change...BTW...I don't know if it'll bet relayed, but I asked Pres. Ribeau why we can't set up the cameras on the East side for TV games...The west side is usually much fuller and would "project" a much better image i.e. "exposure" of the program. He said he'd mention it to GC, but there were a heck of a lot of people he talked with, so I don't know how far it'll go.

Another should go to Glen Stanley. Filling in without any drop off, and one of those was a monster hit!

In fact that's another good sign of depth we have on this team...the injuries have piled up a lot lately, but new receivers and new defenders have shorn the gaps nicely.
But I'm sure Falconballer will come in and offer some pessimism!

Den,

It may have to do with the BG logo on midfield...I'm not certain but maybe they have the cameras set up so the logo isn't upside down all night? Just a guess....how was the Prez box?

The Prez box was really neat! TV monitors above our heads so we could see replays (which incidentally DON"T co-incide with the Large scoreboard screen). President Ribeau and his wife were very gracious hosts to a FULL house of folks, most of whom I didn't know. (Must be potential big donors? )
Plenty of food and drink available, free programs etc. Only complaint was that many of the group weren't paying that much attention to the game...too much talk overwhelmed the TV sound, so I used my headphones to get details. But overall, a really great experience, one that Joyce said she could "deal with" every week! :D

Don't know how many of AZZer's have ever been up in the boxes, but the AD has one, College of Bus. Adm. has one, and a couple of others that I think are "private" boxes. Had a chance to talk with Fran Voll and Curt Miller about 5 min. apart...fun to think I spanned about 30 yrs of women's basketball in that short a time.

My game balls go to Magnone and Brandon/McCall for the offensive gameplan, play-calling, and execution. It was a clinic out there, especially in the first half. And that was missing two huge weapons against the best pass D in the MAC. When we attack a defense with that kind of versatility, we're damn near unstoppable at this level. 3 more weeks of that offense and I think we go 2-1 at least down the stretch, even if the defense struggles.
