MCB Possibility?

Post by BGDrew »

Assuming that things go as planned on Tuesday, we'll see NIU vs Miami in the MACC. Most likely, GMAC will offer a bid to the favorite, which as of now looks like NIU. Now, here's my other question, is the MCB required to offer an invitation to the other team in the MACC, or can they offer it to another bowl elgible team in the conference?

First, I in no way want to offend any Miami fan. You guys have a great team. But, the major thing that I looked at was attendance. BG had a total attendance at home of 87,114. Miami had a total attendance of 78,712. BG has established itself as a team that travels to big games well. If the MAC does in fact get the SVB bowl, will the bid go to Miami or the winnder of BG/UT?

Only the MAC champion is guaranteed a bowl birth. The GMAC and Motor City bowls have ties to the MAC. The GMAC Bowl gets to pick first since that game is early in the bowl season. The Motor City Bowl generally holds off from announcing an invitation until after the MAC Championship game. If the GMAC Bowl does NOT take the eventual champion, then the Motor City Bowl HAS to take the champ. If the GMAC Bowl already has picked the champion, than the Motor City Bowl is free to pick any other MAC team is wants. They do NOT have to pick the other championship game participant.

I think that since we can't make the title game, we need to focus on the upsaide overall. We need to beat UT first off. (Fleabags.) The GMAC or SVB bowls are better for the program than a return to Detroit. The GMAC bowl gives us more press down south, in areas we are more likely to gain from in recruiting. I can't think that even with a SVB appearence, we would gain as much. As far as I know, we don't recruit CA much. Starting a recruiting effort out there might not be as effective as dipping into the south where we have some toe-holds.

First thing first. Beat the rockets (scum.)

If the GMAC has already invited, the MCB HAS to wait, because they might need the winner of the game. Somehow, it seems like this reinforces the idea it should be the other MACC participant, but its not a rule.

It appears like Minnesota will be the opponent. I continue to predict that MCB wants a team from near the region for more than an overnight stay away.

Mentally, we need to make Toledo our bowl game. If we get another one, its a bonus.
