Omar

I was told yesterday by a fairly reliable source that Omar was going to back on campus taking class this spring semester....any truth to this? I hope he is finishing up his degree, but I never thought he would return to BG to do it.

Don't know about his returning to campus. But how disappointed does he have to be right now? NFL QBs are dropping like flies due to injury and guys like Testeverde get pulled off the coach or guys like Patrick Ramsey, Quinn Gray, Sage Rosenfels are now starting and Omar can't even get on a practice squad. Wow.

I guess the odd throwing motion and inability to actually get the team out of the huddle overcame his considerable passing skills

Man, I feel bad for Omar. Hindsight is always 20/20. I think one more year at BG would have been huge for him.

I wish him the best, though, cuz he'll always be a FALCON.

I agree. It seemed like it was pretty much a 50-50 split around here on whether we thought he should come back or if he was ready to go. I was in the "he should stay" half 100 percent. But, it wasn't our decision and the one he made is what he said was the right thing to do. I certainly thought another year could only help him in more ways than one. I'm not saying another year at BG would change the current situation he is in now, but he certainly would have had another year to play college ball. For me, it wasn't an exciting day when he announced he was leaving early. I just really wish we would have had him for one more year. Oh well....

Spot on ... When I heard they were digging up Testaverde's corpse, Omar was the first person I thought of. Hard to believe.

I agree. He may have got some bad advice. With his game, Canada could get him some success and positive exposure and maybe get a chance in the NFL ie Warren Moon, Joe Theiseman (sp), Jeff Garcia.

You know, I don't think one year in college would have made any difference to Omar. I think he'd still be back finishing his degree.

It may not have mattered to him, but it certainly seems to matter to a lot of fans around BG.

Me too -- thought it at the time, too.

I wish him the best. If it's true he's going to finish his dagree, that's awesome, no matter where he does it.

He just got drafted by a team that needed no help at QB (Pittsburgh). Rediculous pick by the Steelers...pick a QB that is almost the same age as your starter when you know Roth would be there for years to come.

Agreed. His problems seem to be comprehension of the playbook and taking snaps from center. Another year in the same system does not help that.

Also for those of you who are surprised he is not playing as these guys get hurt, I would say it is because the guys they sign are mostly emergency QBs who are signed to play in a pinch who need to get the playbook ASAP and be able to run the offense smoothly and not be a liability. I would think that if he was going to get a chance it would be on a team with a steady 1 and 2 who may be aging and who wanted to develop a 3. I am surprised Omar is not in Canada.
