This issue isn't as troubling as the people leaving at halftime. THAT, I have NEVER, EVER understood. If you're only going to come for 1/2 the game, why wouldn't you show up at halftime and watch the 2nd half when the game is decided. These people, many of whom are my fellow students, regularly leave at half/3rd quarter when the game is tied or within a one touchdown lead. Why on earth would anybody leave a close game like that?! I don't get it and I probably never will.

The second half is not the half BG decides its games in. Everything we do is in the first half. We either come out strong and win, our come out flat and lose. Only twice since 2004 that I can recall have we either lost or come back in a second half; UT in 2004, and Buffalo last year. Every other game since then has been decided by the first half of play, and that is why people don't stay for the second half. Football isn't very exciting to watch when you're beating a team by thirty points or so, and it is more frustrating than most people are willing to sit through when you're losing and showing no signs of life.

Play exciting football, and people will stay for the end of the game. I just wish people would stick around to hear beer barrel. I'll bet maybe 15% of the student population has ever even heard the song before.
Yeah right girl!

I think things will go well, regardless. But I don't think they'll see much beyond the 15,000 to 18,000 range. Nobody outside of Toledo knows or cares about UT's record, and most people outside of the area still assume they stink. They simply don't have much standing outside of Little Detroit. BG has most of its alumni base outside of the area. This doesn't help attract people to games, but when times are good, more come. Most of the very casual, remote alumni, still think the team is struggling, or nothing special is going on this year.

If BG loses again, and UT tanks, things could dive below 15,000 but I highly doubt it. BG will get the numbers it needs, but not the numbers that it wants.

some people dig earlier start times, mostly the older alumns i think, but every student i've ever talked to about it doesn't. the main reason is early start times chop up a day. you have to wake up after friday night's events and be out to tailgate earlier then you'd normally be out, and then when the games over at 5 everyone has to pretty much go home or find something to do for 3 more hours. its also a problem when you want to visit after dorm's close or when you've recently graduated. you show up, drink some beers, watch the game and then what? you can't go home because either the dorms are closed for thanksgiving, or you don't have a place and the people you might be staying with are PROBABLY napping. later games are much more convenient. kick off at 5 or so or even 4, go tailgate at 2 or 3, leave the game and go directly to parties or bars. i'm not saying kick off at 7 pm but i don't want to be leaving the game when the sun's still out and get my post-game hangover by 8pm. i realize my big reason is because of parties/drinking but face it, its college football....in bg...thats kinda a big part of the whole experience if you're a student or younger alumn
hey everyone! i'm a moron!

I'm posting from MouseWorld, so I have to be careful what gets said about them, but suffice to say that 2:30 is too damn early, IMO. Better than noon, for sure, but still too early.

2:30 is too early only if you typically order breakfast from a bartender....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

It's not too early to go to the game, but it's too early to properly tailgate.

Yeah- good point. As an "older alum" I can say I would have walked over from Friday night's events, drink my breakfast and then begin tailgating, leave the game and drink for three hours until it was time to start drinking for Saturday. Don't understand that whole waking up" thing that implies people sleep on the weekends. Kids! ;-)

With due respect, I seem to remember weekends started on Thursday, not Friday.

2:30 - Early enough to possibly need sunglasses on the East side of the Doyt. A little sun is always welcome in late November.

Hambb,
I don't agree with your analysis of the 2:30 start time...so you start tailgating at ...what...10 or so? There's plenty of time to do this prior to game time...and for those of us who live 2 1/2 hrs. away or so...the 6 pm finish gives us enough time to drive home without coming in at 2 in the morning.
Then again, since I'm a non-drinker, I don't have to worry about some of the things mentioned in this thread previously re; alcohol consumption.

I don't mind the 2:30 kickoff for TSUN game. I think we can get there by 10 or 10:30 so I'm good! Waltzing in the door at 2:45 AM Saturday after the Akron game was no treat.
