Northern talk

Post by MACMAN »

They split the weekend with western where western handled them 4-2 on Friday and Northern dug out a 4-3 OT decision tonight.
so as far as opposition strength goes when taking in to account that Northern is giving a lot of goals...we should be able to handle them based on the numbers and how our team is playing...given there is week here between games where Northern can shore up some issues, but they are coming in to our house and Im going to assume that the pair o sweeps will bring out the fans (id if the marketing dept does their real jobs and builds more interest) we looking good.

basicly Norther to this point has almost been out shot by a margin of 2 to 1
on the power play Norther is 7 of 46 and Northerns opponents are 17 of 45
item of note, goaltending. the netminding crew is composed of two sophomores both who are still works in progress and a Freshman who i doubt we would see.
#41 Brian Stewart who sees the bulk of the duties, we could even see him both nights
Goal Against average is 4.09 overall and 4.22 conference only aver percentage is .838 overall and .828 ccha
#37 Derek Janzen is no better and freshman #35 Reid Ellingson has seen 14% of the game time and has a loft 5.27 GAA i doubt hes making the trip

I admit 1-7 in conference is bad, BUT...NMU isn't that bad. Their first 3 CCHA series were brutal: Michigan at Michigan State, and Miami. I wouldn't wish that schedule on anybody...except maybe Ohio State...but thats beside the point. We pretty evenly match up to NMU based on the noncoference + WMU series that they've played. Remember they won a rivalry game against a very strong Michigan Tech team.

I agree, Northern will not be a push over!! We need to be ready to take on a team that is desparate for points. Other than the first Miami game, which was a 9-2 blowout, the other games with UM, MSU and the second Miami game were close games. Our biggest advantage is playing at home. It will also be Falcon Hockey Parent Weekend, so many players were will have their families here for the games and will want to put on two good games for them! I know that we CAN sweep them, but we will need to work hard and earn those wins. They won't be gimmies!!

Here is Northern's scores to date with stat sheets you can look through:

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

If people want, I can throw another post with all that information that I have for the past 2 games. I'm not sure how much people actually read any of it, but I'd be happy to do it again if someone wanted it.

With that said I think we have a realistic chance at another sweep, but a split would be great as well.

It's good information. I think.

And even if it wasn't, it looked real purdy. :-D
