I know there has been a lot of discussion about positioning ourselves - which is very important. We win out and that's that.
Let's just say Miami goes 1-1 the next two games (they win the MAC East obviously with at least one win). Then - they get BEAT in the MAC CHAMPIONSHIP game. They are now 6-7.
Not very "BOWL WORTHY" in the win/loss column.
Unless they get an early invite - this opens up a spot where the MAC runner-up doesn't go. A BGSU 7-5 (8-4 much better) and a Ball State 7-5 team (they will obviously beat NIU) look better for the other two bowl spots.
I cannot remember if there is precedent for this (NIU comes to mind a few years ago for some reason where UT got the invite ahead of them or something like that).
Just my thoughts. See you in beautiful Buffalo!
Let's say Miami wins MAC EAST - but doesn't go bowling!

By rule, they would not be able to go bowling.FalkinCruiser wrote:I know there has been a lot of discussion about positioning ourselves - which is very important. We win out and that's that.

The NCAA has made exceptions to the rule for league champions. North Texas got an exception a couple years back. Also, in 1992, Nevada got an exception so they could play the Falcons in the Las Vegas Bowl (Nevada was new to I-A and too many of their wins were over I-AA programs).
In both cases, these exceptions were made for league champions.
It is highly doubtful the NCAA will make an exception for a division champion.
Anyway, the scenario you describe would help BG, absolutely.
The MAC has outgrown its "exceptions," like those sometimes given in the decades past.
It really is a matter of the bowl game wanting a team so badly, it wants to fight for them to play. But I don't think Miami has enough "suck" to do that. Unless Big Ben offers to buy all the tickets.
It could happen. Stranger things have.
What I am really waiting to hear is what cheese the Miami fans would take to a bowl game tailgate.
