What makes you so sure?

Heck, give me one reason. I don't see it.

If the Rockets win Tuesday, that puts Bowling Green in full control of its bowl destiny. So I like that. Goooo Roooooooo....

Well, I can't say it, but I think a Toledo win helps us a ton.

Agreed Schad. There's no definitive reason that BG would get the nod over Ball St. I still like the idea of us having 8 wins. 7 wins doesn't seal the deal in my eyes.
Since you can't bring yourself to say it (and neither can I) I'll finish the rest of for you. .............ckets.

Well, the Ball State win wasn't great for us.

Central Michigan (6-4) has clinched the West and can clinch a bowl bid with one more win against Eastern Michigan, Akron or the MAC East champion in Detroit.

Miami (5-5) can clinch the East tonight with a win tonight at home against Akron or next week at Ohio. To clinch a bowl bid, the RedHawks either need to win both those games, or win one of them and beat Central Michigan in Detroit.

Bowling Green (6-4) needs Miami to lose. If the RedHawks lose their last two games, a win over Buffalo would clinch the East and a bowl bid for the Falcons. If Bowling Green beats either Buffalo or Toledo, that would also clinch a bowl bid under these scenarios:

-- Miami splits their last two games and loses to Central Michigan in Detroit.
-- Ball State loses to Northern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Short of any of that, Bowling Green is in a beauty contest with Ball State (6-5). Closing out with two wins would make Bowling Green 8-4; Ball State can't get there. Hopefully, that would make us pretty enough.

The only other team with a prayer is Buffalo (4-6). If Miami loses their last two, Buffalo could win the East by beating the Falcons and Kent State. Then, they'd have to beat Central Michigan in Detroit to win the MAC title and a bowl bid.

These teams are doomed:

Toledo (5-6)
Ohio (5-6)
Akron (4-6)
Kent State (4-6)
Eastern Michigan (3-8]
Western Michigan (3-7)
Temple (3-6)
Northern Illinois (2-8]

Unless there are less than 3 MAC teams with winning records, right? Let's say only CMU and BG are the only MAC teams with winning records (CMU to the Motor City and BG to the GMAC). Doesn't the Intl Bowl then have to invite a 6-6 MAC team over say a 7-5 Mississippi State team since the MAC has the tie-in to the bowl?

One of the pundits on ESPN.com has Ball State going to the Bell Helicopter Bowl. The PAC Ten might not have enough bowl eligible teams.

They have CMU going to the Motor City, Miami to the GMAC, BG to the International Bowl.

Actually, it's a real bowl game. I thought tiz was yanking our chain. The projection I saw, according to collegefootballnews.com, has TCU vs. Arkansas. But, seriously, these projections carry no weight.

Yeah I figured it was real, the names of some of these bowls are pretty dumb.

If I'm not mistaken if Buffalo wins out Miami would only have to lose one of their last 2 for the Bulls to win the Eastern Division.

I think the Big 10 and SEC will have enough 7-win teams to make up for any shortfall by the PAC 10 has so the MAC will be stuck on 3 bowl bids.

Yes. That's looking pretty darned unlikely at this point. But, yes.

If Miami, Ball State, Bowling Green and Central Michigan were to all lose out, that could open the door to other teams with six losses right now.

First among them would be Buffalo. Because if all four of those teams lose out, that means Buffalo would be MAC champion. And, I suppose, that could crack the door for schools like Ohio, Akron or Toledo.

But this is all pretty unlikely.

Incidentally, I need to make a correction here. Miami cannot clinch the East tonight. They either need to win twice or they need one win and a Buffalo loss.

Anyway...

You are correct. My bad.
