Any updates on Erik Marschall?
Is anyone aware of any updates on Erik Marschall? Is he hurt? Is he sick? Is he suspended? Is he thinking about transferring to Indiana so he can still play for Dakich (sarcasim)?

Coach Orr has a policy not to comment on player injuries. That's why no one has heard anything. He refers inquiries to the trainer/doctors and they don't comment either.
Just keep watching the sideline and reading Metz's text messages... it'll all fall into place eventually.

Am I wrong to believe that HIPAA prevents comment on the nature of injuries without the express consent of the player? Am I wrong to believe that all mankind can live in peace? Am I wrong to believe that for every drop of rain that falls...ZiggyZoomba wrote:Coach Orr has a policy not to comment on player injuries. That's why no one has heard anything. Dunno about the other stuff, but HIPAA definitely forbids the university from revealing any Protected Health Information on it's players, students, employees, etc. I'm actually not sure that the COACH is legally allowed to know the true details of the injury.h2oville rocket wrote:Am I wrong to believe that HIPAA prevents comment on the nature of injuries without the express consent of the player? HIPAA is a royal PIA, but it's for the best. If Erik wanted us to know the details of the injury he'd tell us, but until that time nobody else has the legal right to give details.

hammbone, sorry man, but I gotta call doodoo on that. HIPAAs been around for several years and everybody (except now our men's basketball program) has been revealing injury statuses (status', stata, stati, who knows?) during this time. Com'on, admit it. You're just talking out your rear, aren't you?
It's not a bad idea in principle, however.

I work in the medical industry man. I'm in IT in the medical industry. HIPAA is incredibly restrictive. The caveat is that if the player gives permission anything can be said.
Legally a caretaker/healthcare provider can not disclose any medical information to anyone without the patients' permission. Obviously there are exceptions for minors, and usually it's pretty lax around family members as well. The entire idea of HIPAA stipulates that all information about your medical condition is your private property, if you choose not to disclose it your caretakers are forced to keep it confidential to the public. You are allowed to transmit the info to other covered entities, but you must have a signed agreement with them. (Claim clearinghouses, Insurance companies, other doctors offices, etc.)
Reading HIPAA to the letter of the law it is VERY restrictive. I'm not going to say that it's always strictly adhered to, but if Marschall wants to make a stink about it, he very much has the right to keep that information withheld. Like I said, technically I don't think even the coach is legally allowed to get the details if Erik chooses to keep them private.

I would guess (if there is an injury at all), it might be a matter of basketball-related or not. If it's not something that came as a result of athletic activity for BG, they (or especially Erik) might be more reluctant to go public, thus invoking HIPAA.
The Carin Horne story is probably a pretty good (if not somewhat extreme) example of this.

Yeah, when I saw no Marschall anywhere then I kinda figured we wouldn't see him again. Thats hurts big time. Were kinda thin at true PF. I'm guessing now Madlock is definitely not a RS as he played today and is probably our emergency PF/C. This sucks, I don't know if Erik is done in BG or if he plans to get a medical RS. Its sad to lose his offense that he could provide.OSUFALCON wrote:I hear this could be a non physical injury. I'm not going to say much more than that but my source has ties to the team. We may not Erik again. He wasn't on the bench today.

Not likely for Eric
He supposedly had surgery on Wednesday (14). I'm guessing redshirt, since we're not exactly dying without him and he'll be able to play another full season(s).
