I'm assuming you posted this on the JJ Huddle's College BB forum in the BG tops Cincy thread.

"A co-worker's wife works for an architechtural firm out of Findlay and they have a meeting at BG today regarding a new arena."

For the rest of you, here's the link to the thread. You may have to wade through some posts about OSU not playing Cincy arguments.

I know of this plan. I believe they're calling it . . . . . . . The Alan Parson's Project!!! There's also something in there about sharks with frickin lasers attached to their heads, but I'm a little fuzzy on the specifics! mu haahah

So, during yesterday's alumni gathering at the UB game, I had the following conversation with Greg Christopher:

LB: "So, when are we going to hear about . . ."
GC: "The arena?"

He proceeded to tell me that fundraising has been going pretty hard after donors (we knew that), that it was definitely not going to combine hoops and hockey (that's good), and that we'd be hearing pretty soon about what's actually up.

He also indicated that they're going to do some pretty significant updating of the Ice Arena including possibly decreasing the seating capacity. I think that's good. The best way to create a buzz around a program is to start selling out the arena.

I'm now officially old.

I remember when they put the extra seating in. And, at the time, they needed the extra seating.

Attendance

Does anyone have the home attendance figures for men's basketball for the last 5-10 years?

I don't even give a "rat's a$$" anymore!!!

Could we just get a decent American flag DISLAYED in Anderson Arena instead of hanging a 50 year old flag on a couple of nails!!!
Yeah, I second that as well. Last men's home game at the playing of the SSB I actually noticed the flag and how old and worn it is. Dang, for the love of Pete somebody replace that thing.

New Info from the AD.....

Q: Where do things stand on the new arena? How about the facility study you did? You talked about everything being ready in the fall. Was this just more talk? Or perhaps it's time for another study?
Frank in Cleveland

A: The Facility Master Plan was completed and presented to the President and trustees earlier this fall - we will have a summary on our web site in the coming weeks. New Provost Shirley Baugher is now finishing a similar capital plan for the academic side of campus. Once finalized, expect a formal announcement of various facility projects and priorities on Bowling Green's campus. This will include academic initiatives, the long-awaited convocation center, a renovated and expanded student health center building and upgrades to BGSU's dining and residence facilities.

In the meantime, we continue to work on the convocation center and Ice Arena renovation. Lead gift fundraising is underway and programming and architect planning meetings are ongoing.

We'll see if this goes anywhere.

I would LOVE to be in these meetings. I have heard many interesting things about the views of our new Provost from multiple sources. I hope nothing that is really needed gets swept under the table. But time will tell and I am 100% convinced athletic facilities WILL be addressed in the near future.

From my understanding, some things have already been swept under the table (locker room) and others have been severely delayed (ice arena repair). The convo is supposedly still a GO! It seems the academic side is getting a little jealous and thinks too much is being spent on athletics!!!

 :(

What they don't realize is that the athletic side brings them students.

Is that what is mostly holding BGSU back in terms of athletic advancement, BG's academia side? That is sad that the adademic dept. can't realize the importants of good quality and competitive athletic teams. Is this divide at other schools like us. I can't see the UM or OSU becoming the dominant athletic force they've become over the last 50+ years if they had an Academic Dept that was always fighting the Athletic Dept for resources or trying to discourage any kind of advancent in athletics.

I've always had a sneaking suspicion that this might be a problem but didn't realize how much it might be.

Haven't weighed in on this subject, but this comment pushed me over the edge. Geez Falconboy- get a grip. This is BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY, not BG athletic club. WE are here to educate.

I know that academics, athletics, advancement, alumni, and admissions work together better at this university than many, many, many others. I won't cite the bazillion examples but if you want facts, I'll provide them.

The fact that a new provost wants to examine needs and do a study and things would be announced in a logical order worked out by all involved should not be looked upon as a bad thing. Rather that all parts of our University know AND care what the other parts are doing and need.

Good things come to those who wait. It HAS been a long wait, but it sounds as if exciting times are ahead.

I defer my soapbox to the gentleman from Bay Willage, BO.

When I read the answer the AD gives for the question of the week, it says volumes to me. What has this fellow not accomplished (or taken significant steps on) that he has stated as a goal? It has been a very transparent, productive and forward moving/thinking 15 months in my opinion.

So when I read that, I am getting ready to help get this going. Believe me, this will be an opportunity for every AZZer to get on board in some way.

There is no question that our university's first mission is first rate education. I am sure our university leadership- academic/athletic/student affairs/development- will be working together. For that matter, they ARE working together in my opinion.

I agree , that should be the case. But isn't good if academic dept. is looking down at athletics either. I honestly don't know how much dough the academic side of things need to operate efficiently but it can't be anywhere near as much as it takes to keep athletic programs heads above water. Yeah, academia comes first but as long as its not jealously hording university money just for the sake of hording money cuz they don't like athletics. Athletics can be just as an important life learning tool as any class they can take. Just my take , bash me if want.
