Is Cochrane pretty much regulated to a "permanent" backup? He played at Wadsworth HS in our league so I was well aware of him. Has he just not gotten it done?
Opelt is the kid that scares the daylights outta me. When he's healthy, he runs that UT Offense extremely well.
Opelt has a lot of talent, but is a dying breed in college QB's......a pocket passer. UT's offense really needs a mobile QB to run it and Cochran is not.
What hurt him the most though is that he got injured near the end of the Iowa State game last year and was never the same the rest of the year. It got worse when he made the injury worse against Kansas and missed a couple of games. Then this year he was beaten out by Opelt for the starting spot. Then he gets his chance against WMU when Opelt goes down with an ankle injury and Cochran immediately seperates his shoulder in that same game. He hasn't played since, but is apparently healthy now and will most likely play at least some against BG.
It has to be frustrating for him to have so much upside, but keep getting injured. I really believe that if he did not get hurt last year UT would have won 2 or 3 more games and been looking at a 7-5 or 8-4 season last year with Cochran playing really well for us. Unfortunately injuries have hit us bad these last two years though at nearly every position. We have played most of the season without 6 players that were supposed to be starters on defense. Those six will not play against Bowling Green.
After a quick google check of the Toledo and Kansas game, Opelt was 10-19 for 38 yards and 3 interceptions. Cochran was 2-6 for 11 yards for a total of 49 yards. Rediculous. Kansas is number 2 in the nation but look how many times BG has played teams in the top 10 and still light it up offensively. Horrible game any way you look at it. Nebraska had 405 passing yards against them and Florida International's QB had 150 yards passing against them. All of Toledo QB's have played this year and it really doesn't matter who plays. Just like if Glaud or Turner would play if Sheehan was hurt....we wouldn't be that far off of our game with them playing.
Cochran doesn't fit UT's offense at all. I would expect to see Parmele/Collins to get a good load of carries and passing only relegated to needed times (long yardage, 3rd downs). Clint has a lot of upside but as previously mentioned, injuries and maybe a lack of confidence have put him on the pine. It'll be interesting to see how long Amstutz sticks with one QB, I think Lenehan will get some PT to gain further experience.

Thanks, RF. Injuries hit BG pretty hard but we've been fortunate to heal in time for the stretch run...and our backups have done their job for the most part.

As RF says, we are indeed rediculous. We were diculous once and now we are diculous again. Please don't hurt us.
Seriously, everybody is hurt at this time of the year- no whining about injuries from this quarter. To paraphrase Rumsfeld- You play with the team you got, not the one you wish you had.
Bye the bye- student announcers from BG called Partridge's name on a play last week then retracted, saying "No, I think that was (?) not Partridge this time" Do they not know he's out for the season or is he doing some limited duty?

Corey is done on offense for the year. His injury almost makes catching balls impossible. In a severe severe pinch he could suit up as a DB, but highly unlikely.
And as far as Cochran goes, his upside is in his future after leaving UT. The guy is extremely intelligent.

If you aren't going to count one of BG's games against a Top Ten team, then you shouldn't count one of Toledo's against a Top Ten team, right?
BG's games against Top Ten teams, or close to Top Ten teams since 2000:
2007
Boston College 55
BGSU 24
BG had 465 total yards
2006
Ohio State 35
BGSU 7
BG had 339 total yards
Wisconsin 35
BGSU 14
BG had 301 total yards
2005
Wisconsin 56
BGSU 42
BG had 531 total yards
2004
Oklahoma 40
BGSU 24
BG had 269 total yards
2003
Ohio State 24
BGSU 17
BG had 366 total yards
2000
Michigan 42
BGSU 7
BG had 271 total yards
There are some impressive stats in there, and some less than impressive stats. In the game against Kansas this year, we might have only threw for 77 yards, but sophomore running back DaJuane Collins rushed for 102 yards and Parmele had 88 yards. We had 251 yards of total offense. Not great, but not bad against a team that at the time had the #1 total defense in the country and is still one of the best defenses in the country.
2003
Toledo 35
#9 Pitt 31
UT had 551 total yards
The Pitt game happens to be our only other game against a Top Ten team since 2000.

Official stats say that BG had 269 total yards against Oklahoma.
RF is right. Omar threw for 218 yards and we had trouble running the ball on that D.
That was Omar's first start no pics. That was also Adrian Peterson's first game. He made a lot of college defenses look bad.
For what it is worth, in 2003, Purdue was ranked in the top 20. I am not sure BG's total yards, but I know Josh had over 300 yards. I wish that game was available on DVD. What a game!
2 games against teams in the top 10 since 2000 for Toledo...enough said. I really don't think Kansas cared that the Rockets were running the ball so well when the score was an absolute blowout. What do you think? Bottom line, if we ever had a QB throw for 38 yards, Brandon would be run out of town. Heck, we go into shock when we "only" throw for 220 or so and have to punt more than 3 times in a game.
