Yeah.

And that brutal schedule he wants to use as an excuse? It included such powerhouses as FIU (0-12), Miami (2-10), Temple (1-11), EMU (1-11), Buffalo (2-10), Akron (5-7), Toledo (5-7), and Kent (6-6). In case you're keeping track at home, that's 2/3 of the schedule that couldn't break the .500 mark, including 5 teams in the bottom 10 of all college football. That ain't brutal if you played the Dallas Cowboys the other 4 games.

But, last year's sked also included the #1 team in the nation in OSU, Wisconsin, MAC Champ CMU & MAC East Champ Ohio U. There were 8 road games...4 home. I think the brutal comment was more in line with how many road games we played.

At any rate, let's enjoy this ride! Whatever you think of Coach B...it's your choice. But an 8-4 season in 2007, IMO, should get him a 2 year extension.

You're absolutely right about enjoying this ride. The team is playing well right now, and Brandon deserves as much credit for that as he does blame for the problems of the previous 2 years. I don't necessarily disagree about an extension if we beat Toledo and go to a bowl. I'm just still very hesitant to put my faith in the man when he still can't accept blame for his shortcomings.

A man that won't accept blame or learn from his mistakes is not a leader, and doesn't stand much chance to become one.

If he can beat TU and go to a bowl, and I really hate to say this, he deserves an extra year. Absolutely no more than 1 year. We have not beaten a team with a winning record (except western KY who is not a 1A school) this entire year. Sure, you can blame the other schools in this weak conference for that, but it's still a fact. I am not sure that we beat a team with a winning record last year either. We have been absolutely terrible in two huge games: Miami and OU. We were expected to win the other games (though i thought Buffalo would beat us). Beat toledo and he deserves 1 year. BG has made a habit of offering too many years too many times. I think we have finally learned that it really doesn't accomplish anything to make a coach feel too secure.

I agree.

The athletic director generally has final say, too.

(Which is not the same thing as expressing sympathy for Brandon's larger point. Sure, Wisconsin and Ohio State were tough opponents. But he practically had Wisconsin at home. And Florida International and Temple were not tough opponents.)
As to no control over playing 27 freshmen? Umm, yes you did. Build consistently solid recruiting classes and you don't get forced into playing so many freshmen. Build depth throughout the roster. That's absolutely in the hands of the coaching staff.
Sure. But was it in Brandon's control?

The 2006 team's redshirt seniors were recruited after the 2001 season under the leadership of Urban Meyer. The 2006 team's redshirt juniors and true seniors were recruited the year Urban Meyer left for Utah.

I agree that head coaches ultimately have to bear responsibility for the level of talent they are bringing into the program.

But I give Brandon a pass on the talent we had in the program in 2006. It certainly wasn't fully under his control.
