MAC East

Post by Falcon137 »

After looking at how the other teams in the East have opened up even if BG has an above expectations year can they win the East?

OU-vs. New Mexico State W, 80-72
vs. Cornell W, 102-89

New Mexico St. is solid and Cornell is picked to win the Ivy League.
An upcoming game at Holy Cross could be telling.

Kent- at Detroit, Mich. 60 - 61 (L)
Hampton 77 - 71 (W)
Coppin State 74 - 51 (W)

Bounced back after a bad loss to a middle of the road Horizon league team. Upcoming game with Xavier should be the measuring stick.

Buffalo- vs. Ohio Valley W, 89-82
vs. Connecticut L, 82-57
SOUTH FLORIDA W, 76-69

Good win against S. Florida. Not a bad loss at UCONN. Dec. 1st game with Evansville will give us the best idea how they are.

Akron- vs. USC Upstate 64 - 60 (W)
vs. Portland State 63 - 66 (L)
vs. Tennessee State 74 - 72 (W)

Bad loss to Portland St. and squeaking by USC Upstate and Tennessee St. are to impressive. Temple at home, Dayton on the road, and UIC at home will be big games for the Zips.

Miami- vs Xavier W, 59-57

Best win by the MAC thus far over Xavier. Home game with Dayton will let us know if the Xavier win was an aberration or signs on things to come.

BG- vs. Western Carolina L, 63-60
vs. Belmont W, 78-67
at Cincinnati W, 69-67
vs. Morehead State W, 86-70

Best win so far looks like Belmont after they beat Alabama. The UC win looks good on paper but the Bearcats will be lucky to get 10 wins. Temple at home will show how good this team is. The stretch of 3 road games against inferior opponents will be important, this team can't over look anyone.

I would say right now the best in the East looks like this,

Miami
Ohio
BG
Kent
Buffalo
Akron

Excellent post. Thanks for all the research.

The East listing looks about right to me. Pollitz, Tillman, and Williams are excellent players that compare well with the best players that we've had in the conference over the past 10 years. That makes those teams very strong. Pollitz reminds me a lot of Dan Majerle when he was at Central Michigan.

Akron may surprise. Jeremiah Wood is back and is putting up excellent numbers. They have had some decent recruiting classes, so the new faces may surprise. Beyond that, Linhart and Milam return.

To me, Kent and Buffalo are question marks.

It's telling in that it shows where many Ohio alums fancy their institution's academic stature given the the opponents in two of the first three games.
