Correct spelling of BGSU basketball names

Come on people... the least you can do is take a minute to look up the spelling of their names. Show a little respect for the guys!

I've stopped being upset by most grammar and spelling errors on this site. I definitely don't condone them, and I think, in a small way it's a part of a much bigger problem in society, but that's another point... I understand people don't care enough to take the time to spell and grammar check anymore. That reflects poorly on them in my mind, but it's not my concern. If they want to come across looking like someone who doesn't care, so be it.

That being said, I can't STAND when people misspell the names of players! ESPECIALLY 5th year seniors!! It's been that way with basketball names for as long as this site has been in existence and I do NOT understand it!

I believe he spells Perrick, "Moon".

I hope the fans catch on to this and give him a loud "Moooooooooon" when he makes a big play. . .

Grant, you know I'm with you 100%.

When you start conversing with people over the internet, via written posts, you start to realize how much of society has no grasp on such easy concepts as spelling and grammar. Like you it really upsets me when it is a player's name that is misspelled. It is quite easy to look on the team roster page to find out the correct spelling of a name!

Then again, if you read some of the letters that certain co-workers of mine send out to customers you'd be more appalled than when reading this site. It amazes me that so many people never learned to write...

I don't want to turn this into an English lecture... but I don't even think it's that they never learned to write (although that's part of it) that bothers me so. It's that they don't CARE to! The apathy people feel towards their language is one link in a chain of general apathy that's encircled America.

To me, language is as much a distinguishing trait as clothing or hair-style. I take as much pride in the language I use and the words I choose as I do in the clothes I put on each day. I feel they reflect upon me and I want to maintain a good appearance.

I truly feel it's disrespectful to misspell someone's name when it's SO easy to find the correct spelling. That's why I put this "reminder" on here for easy access. No one has any excuse to misspell a player or coach's name again on this site (with the possible exception of a fat-finger typo...which is easily corrected).

Grant, I like the points you make with writing and the clothes you wear. .. One thing though, people view these message boards as a candid forum where the mistakes may come through because of that. Now, consistently screwing up names and proper nouns is not good. I also think that emails should be proofed more often than they are as they are more formal than say this message board where spelling thakn you is an error, but not as critical in my mind as screwing that up in a letter or email. . .

The forum/location doesn't matter to me; I take pride in my language always. To others it matters some places and doesn't matter in others... you have solidified my position Dayons_Den!

Why the difference? Why should mistakes be allowed here and not in a term paper? Does it take that much longer to re-read what you post? Are we all in THAT much of a rush? (I'm not singling you out DD...just speaking to the masses...) Hit the preview button before the submit one for a change, re-read your post before you post it. It only takes a few seconds.

Many people think it's silly that I get this worked up about something they consider to be petty and meaningless. I think it's silly that they don't.

I find the inability to build a coherent theme or a logical arguement more distressing than the spelling or grammatical errors. Spelling and grammar are the doors and windows. Logical orginzation is the foundation of this old house we call "communication". Far too many people leave the educational system without the slightest inclination towards developing this essential skill.

Hmmm I'm beginning to see the light. I mean, once someone reads your post that is the last and sometimes single representation of who you are, in their minds. Now the parallel between dress and message board posting is becoming clearer to me.

I don't think that you "get too worked up" on this stuff, and neither would my mother. The decline of interpersonal skills due to things such as "instant messaging" and "emails" is a trend that is beginnign to leap over from those tech areas to everyday, person to person communication forms.

I don't want to sound like I'm lecturing...because mine is just one viewpoint. There are others who would argue that this change is evolutionary and the language is only becoming what it needs to be in order to survive.

I can see both sides of it... but I guess it's obvious which way I'm leaning. I don't think language IS evolutionary. I think it's an absolute, like math, or chemistry. It's an established set of rules that must be followed or it's wrong. Things can be added to it, but not taken away.
