I seem to remember hearing the NCAA was reluctant to set a permanent cap on the number of bowl games because it wasn't sure such a cap would legally hold up in court. In other words, if a bowl game presents a solid financial plan and meets other objective criteria, the NCAA may feel like it it has to approve it.

I'm not sure if that's true. This is my impression, though.

Also, consider this: the ACC may be about to try to poach Big East bowl games. That means the Big East could be bowl hungry -- and, like the MAC, in a position to consistently provide teams to a Toronto bowl.

Based on those two hunches, I have a feeling that a Toronto bowl could continue going forward.

Would another bowl put pressure on other bowls out west? Sure it would. But that isn't our problem, nor is it the Big East's problem. The only way it really could come back to pinch us is if bowl inflation reaches the point where no teams are available anywhere. Conceivably, that could hurt the Motor City Bowl at some point, although it hasn't happened yet.

This season certainly makes two new bowls less likely, doesn't it? Maybe two replacements, but two NEW bowls?
