BG vs. Missouri & Kansas
BG vs. Missouri & Kansas
It's kind of hard to believe that just five short years ago (in 2002), BG was beating the crap out of these two teams: BG 51, Mizzou 28 & BG 39, KU 16.

Help from someone please.....Why did Kansas NOT go for an on-side kick after the safety? Is there something in the rule book that prohibits such a play after a safety? The announcers said nothing yet I have to believe that "Amstutz senior" (He has to have at LEAST 50#'s on our boy Tommy
), if allowed would have definitely set this type of play up?

There is no rule against it. They should have tried it.

I got married the day of the BG win over Mizzou. At our wedding reception, we had the DJ announce the final score. It was great!

There was 15-20 seconds left in the game, it doesn't matter if they were kicking off from the 1, they should have done it. (Unless there really is a rule against it.)
But speaking of safeties....how's that Lenahan kid doing? I hope he had a nice trip.

You certainly can onside a free kick. Actually a kickoff after a TD and a kickoff after a safety are both considered free kicks. I can recall many years ago seeing the Miami Dolphins onside kick after a safety from a punt formation and recover the kick.tekekini wrote:You can not onside kick a free kick.
A couple excerpts from Section 6 of the NCAA Rulebook regarding kicks:
"Unless relocated by a penalty, the kicking
team’s restraining line on a kickoff shall be its 30-yard line, and for a free
kick after a safety, its 20-yard line."
"ARTICLE 3. A Team A player may touch a free-kicked ball:
a. After it touches a Team B player (Exception: Rule 6-1-4).
b. After it breaks the plane of and remains beyond Team B’s restraining
line (Exception: Rule 6-4-1) (A.R. 2-11-2-I).
c. After it touches any player, the ground, an official or anything beyond
Team B’s restraining line.
Thereafter, all players of Team A become eligible to touch, recover or
catch the kick. Illegal touching of a free kick is a violation that, when the
ball becomes dead, gives the receiving team the privilege of taking the ball
at the spot of the violation. However, if there are offsetting fouls or if a
penalty incurred by either team before the ball becomes dead is enforced,
this privilege is canceled (A.R. 6-1-3-I)."
