Probably would have helped Omar if we were undefeated in late November...

Omar got plenty of love. There was even talk of him going in the first or second round of the NFL draft by some of the national talking heads when he declared.

And as good as Omar was, he never put up the records that Colt Brennan is doing.

He never led an undefeated run for one thing. In fact, we lost the first game of the year in both of his seasons as a starter. Winning those early games to get to 4-0, 5-0 or better really gets your name out there as a "story".

More importantly, Omar didn't stay for his senior year like Brennan did. If Jacobs had stayed for his final year he would've gotten a ton of publicity. Coming off two big years he would've been talked about among the best QBs in college football last year.

I think he got plenty of love. Starting from that article in ESPN the Magazine. They were talking about his 41/4 ratio all the time. It all pretty much ended when Boise killed us though.

Brennan isn't really getting any love...on ESPN's front page they have a poll...Who will win the Heisman? Colt isn't one of the choices...there isn't even a "Someone else" option. Colt Brennan, in the words of Will Smith's classic song, "Welcome to Miami, beinvenido a Miami"

Colt gets the love because he plays in a system where he's built to succeed. The guy throws 50-60 passes a game, a QB is gonna rack up gaudy numbers when that happens. Spielman made a good point during the game, stating that he will likely struggle in the NFL under a more traditional offensive scheme. I believe if they play in a BCS game, a more talented defense can easily shut him down.

Did you completely ignore my post? Brennan isn't even going to be in the room at the Downtown Athletic Club when the give the trophy to someone who is less deserving. His team is undefeated, they put 50 points on just about everyone, the destroyed a ranked Boise State team but ESPN doesn't even put him on the "Who will win the Heisman?" poll. He's not getting love even though he is succeeding.

A #119 strength of schedule doesn't help his case much. I would hope with the talent Hawaii has that they could go likely 12-0 against poor competition. He'd be deserving if he had a signature win outside of Boise, but the Heisman folks aren't going to give much credence to a win over a non-BCS team. That's just the way it'll always be.

Well, there have been a lot of systems like this over the years, and yet only one guy has put up these kinds of numbers. Sure, the system is a big reason why he has the opportunity to put up these stats, but he still has to execute. If it were easy, everyone would do it.

I agree, my main point was just that his # of TD's and yardage are going to increase when the ball is barely ran. He has extremely talented WR's, and a solid OL to help him execute. Like I said, I wanna see how he does in an NFL-style offense, we've seen a fair share of good QB's who come from a spread in college have trouble adjusting, including Omar.

What Colt is doing though is good for all of the non-BCS schools. This will likely be two years in a row where a non-BCS school gets a major bowl bid, and I don't think anyone here hates the exposure or the extra pocket change.
