Redhawks Might Own the MAC

Post by Rollo83 »

Miami beats Mississippi State tonight. So far they have beat Xavier, South Alabama and now Miss State. Plus, take USC down to wire before losing. Charlie will be a tough out this year in the MAC. Pollitz kid is just flat out a player.

Might own the MAC? I will give this a resounding WILL own the MAC. The Xavier team they beat drilled #8 Indiana in a game that was never close. Charlie Coles does a great job with that team. They are not very athletic and not great players besides Pollitz (sp?) but they play that grind it out style that drives teams nuts.

Believe it or not I think MAC teams will play better against them, they see them a ton and know what to expect out of the Redhawks. A team like USC or Miss. State just walks into a buzz saw of that tough nose grind it out, your going to play our pace basketball. However, with that said I look for Miami to pretty much roll through the MAC.

On a little side note if Miami beats Dayton at home Wednesday night look for them to maybe crack the top 25 next week.

I believe Miami is a very good team and I also believe Indiana was vastly overrated. They have no concept of team basketball. It's all 1 on 5 ball and if Gordon doesn't score 30 points a game IU has no chance.

Man, a lot of Miami love on this board lately. They're certainly a good team, but here's why I'm not giving them the championship just yet:

-Their style of play is known well inside the MAC but can easily surprise a mid-to-lower level SEC team like Mississippi State.

-The Xavier game was a rivalry, and emotions play a big role.

-We beat South Alabama last year and went 3-13 in league play, so I'm not going to use them as any type of barometer.

-Miami, with 3 starters and 9 overall returning players, doesn't have as steep a learning curve as BG does with our reliance on relatively inexperienced players adjusting to brand new offensive and defensive schemes.

Giving the MAC to Miami in November is jumping the gun a little. WMU is looking very strong and Ohio has some extremely good players. While Tim Pollitz is the second coming of Dan Majerle, they aren't overwhelming at any other position.

Miami should get some love on here, There's no reason not to give every MAC team love for their non-conference wins. With that said Westerns win over Davidson was another great win for the MAC.

What does S. Alabama have to do with anything? They are no where near as good as Xavier, USC, or Miss. St.

Xavier was a rivalry game but Xavier is a team that sees Miami every year and is accustomed to that style of play yet they still got beat.

Miami also has Bramos and Hayes to go along with Pollitz. While I'm not saying we should hand them a trophy right now I am saying RIGHT NOW they are by far the best team in the MAC.

And what does BG having inexperienced players have to do with Miami winning the MAC?

I just thought it was interesting that another Miami thread popped up that brought up some good points about them being a tough out but caused you to immediatly declare them the best team in the MAC. Usually the 'Other Schools' forum is used to talk about the greatness of our opponents in such a way. No problem.

They were another one of their non-conference wins that someone else cited in the post above yours. Check it out...it's a pretty good post.

The rivalry factor is still at play, and once a year is different from being in the same division.

That's your opinion and it could very well be true, but until the teams start playing each other, it's all academic. There's a long way to go between now and Cleveland.

And what does BG having inexperienced players have to do with Miami winning the MAC?
Simple. BG and other teams in the same boat are probably going to get better, while they're likely playing as well as they're going to now because of their experience.

Sorry about missing the S. Alabama quote. I don't consider that a good win at all. I think he was simply saying everyone they've beaten not good wins. Their good wins are Xavier and Miss St. with a good loss against USC.

Yeah. They challenged themselves last year and it worked out well for them. We'll have to see how it plays out. I've always liked Charlie Coles, and I like him even more after he pointed out the benefits of playing in Anderson Arena to Louis Orr before he got the job.

I like what I see on the rosters at Ohio, Miami & WMU. All three have looked solid early on. I also think the East will be much better than the West again, but my pick to win the MAC Championship is Ohio. At this point in the non-conference, I'm most impressed with Miami. But once the MAC rolls around, I'm expecting the Bobcats to be a force.

And that is why we play the games. Miami has been impressive so far, but they have put a B!G bullseye on their backs. I look for everyone to p;lay their best when playing Miami.

Go Falcons!

Dayton is pretty darn good. But the thing that stands out in that game is Bramos going for 36! If Bramos can be consistently that good not necessarily that 36 every night and also get Pollitz mixed in they are going to be tough.

Western also lost last night to Valpo. And then Kent just destroyed a decent A-10 St. Louis team last night

The MAC is far from a lock for any team right about now.
