Possible GMAC Bowl Opponent - Tulsa

Post by Rollo83 »

From College Footbal News website. This from their "Who's Hot and Who's Not" column. One of the websites have us playing Tulsa in the GMAC Bowl. This description sounds like they could be talking about us. Tulsa would be a good match-up for us.
Who's Not...

Tulsa defense
If you want to see a fun and exciting shootout, check out UCF vs. Tulsa in the Conference USA title game. Tulsa's offense leads the nation with 548 yards per game, but the defense has been abysmal over the last two games against Army and Rice, allowing 328 passing yards and three touchdowns, and 491 yards of total offense, to a bad Black Knight offense two weeks ago, and last week allowed 700 yards of total offense, including 541 passing yards, to Chase Clement and Rice. The Golden Hurricane has allowed 400 yards of total offense ore more in nine games with two 500 yarders, a 600 yarder, and no a 700-yard day. UCF cranked out 453 yards in its 44-23 win over Tulsa in October.

If the GMAC wants to stay true to their "heritage", BG-Tulsa is right up their alley. The over/under may push triple digits.

I doubt Tulsa would get invited. I don't think they would bring more than a few thousand fans. UCF would bring around 15,000-20,000 and ECU would bring 8,000-10,000 fans. I hope the GMAC folks learned their lessons when they took UTEP (750 fans) over UCF. We'll see though

Browsing some newspapers yesterday, it may be between Central Florida and East Carolina. Around East Carolina, they think they've still got a shot at the GMAC Bowl, since the bowl has not yet released them yet to accept a bid from the Hawaii Bowl. (Other Conference USA bowls that pick after the GMAC have been allowed to invite teams).

If that's correct, here's the bottom line: The Conference USA title game winner plays in the Liberty Bowl. If Central Florida loses in the title game, they would play in Mobile. If Tulsa loses, they play in Hawaii and East Carolina would play in Mobile.

Also, while the invitation hasn't been extended yet, New Jersey papers see Rutgers as a lock for the International Bowl.

So since UCF is in the C-USA title game is it safe to assume ECU would be the more beatable GMAC Bowl opponent?

That's a worthy hunch.

I saw most of Central Florida's game against Texas. The Knights nearly won, but that isn't the most troubling part. They have this back, Kevin Smith, who is a load.

We don't seem to do well against Kevin Smiths.

For recruiting purposes, seems like UCF would be a much better opponent. We would definitely get more exposure to recruits in FLA if we play UCF than if we play ECU or Tulsa.
