I agree wholeheartedly about the Coach B talk, and to some extent about the talk about next year's potential. Who cares at this point what happens with Coach Brandon? Hell, 90% of the people that frequent these boards have wanted him run out of Wood County on a rail at one point or another over the past 2 years. So, if he does go somewhere else for more money and bigger opportunities, aren't a lot of people going to have gotten what they were asking for four weeks ago anyways?

So far as next year goes, I agree that it is far too early to speculate about with any degree of accuracy. Still, with almost a week until we likely hear about where we are going bowling combined with the level of talent that we are returning next year, it is damned hard not to think about. I was trying not to until I stumbled upon what I thought was an outrageous conversation this evening - and then I got sucked in.

I can't wait until we have our bowl opponent to dissect, and their fans to converse with!

To answer the question, I can't see Brandon leaving with the talent that returns next year. Seems like he would have a lot of leverage here if things go well.

WANTS EXTENSION: Coach Gregg Brandon said yesterday he will seek a contract extension this offseason. Brandon's current deal expires after the 2008 season.

"Absolutely, and that's something I'm sure we'll sit down and talk about here in the not too distant future," Brandon said.

Brandon is 38-23, including two bowl wins, in his five years at BG. He makes a gross salary of $150,000 - third lowest among NCAA coaches, according to a study released last November by USA Today. Brandon will receive $5,000 if the Falcons make a bowl game and $2,000 more if he is named MAC coach of the year.

GB with a win is easily worth double what he is making now. BG simply can not aford to keep him...I cant really see staying for less than 225 base...BG has been great for him and I had and those BONUSES are just plain insulting. Cripes sake he should be geting more to the tune of 20-40 for a bowl and 30-50 for consecutive bowls here at BG.
A new SEBO doesnt put Franklin's in the bank. He is to atractive and if an offer comes he needs to go.

For any recruits who might be reading this, be advised that there's a 99.9% chance Brandon isn't going anywhere. All of it is baseless speculation from those outside of the loop. He's had offers after successful seasons before and has turned them down, and that was before we had the best facilities in the conference.

In any program, there is invariably going to be speculation about the coach being fired or leaving for another position. If they fall on the latter end, you know the program is successful.

A look at some of the coaches who might be considered possible successors to Sonny Lubick at Colorado State:

Tony Alford, Louisville RB coach: Was a star running back at CSU (1987-90) and still holds school record for rushing yards in a game (310 against Utah in 1989). Was assistant head coach at Iowa State before going to Louisville.

John Benton, Houston Texans offensive line coach: Four-year starter on CSU offensive line (1983-86). Started coaching as graduate assistant in 1987 and by time he left for NFL was the Rams' co-offensive coordinator.

Al Borges, Auburn offensive coordinator: Worked with CSU athletic director Paul Kowalczyk at Portland State in the 1980s. Helped Auburn finish first in the SEC in scoring in 2004 and 2005.

J.D. Brookhart, Akron head coach: Native of Denver and starred as a wide receiver at CSU (1985-87). Was a Broncos assistant (1995-96) for Mike Shanahan.

Rick Dennison, Broncos offensive coordinator: Played tight end at CSU (1977-79) before going on to play linebacker in the NFL with the Broncos. In his 13th season on the Broncos' coaching staff.

Interesting that Brookhart is on that list. Also interesting that most of those guys all have direct ties to CSU. Seems like your limiting yourselve quite a bit if you are looking at a pool of candidates that only includes people with ties to the school.

I don't think Brandon is going anywhere. I think anyone who says anything less than a M.A.C. championship should get him fired is off the reservation. Soon to be three bowl wins, a pretty good career record. Guy obviously cares a lot about this school and its football program. Despite his flawes, the guy is a keeper.
