If it is the GMAC Bowl...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Then I have been stricken with horrible timing. I had to get new tires, new brake pads and an alignment done on the Honda...about $650 worth. We also need $450 worth of work on our chimney. Add in Christmas right down the road and there is no way I can get us to Mobile at this time. Talk about bad timing. I am still hoping BG gets the International Bowl, simply for selfish reasons, so I can take the family. But it certainly looks like BG is GMAC Bowl bound.

I thought about making a solo trip to Mobile but I feel that wouldn't be the right thing to do and leave Mrs. Freak and the boys behind. It wouldn't be fair to them.

Sacrifices certainly do hurt....but at least the game will be on TV.

Those that can go, drink a couple for me and do a Falcon Screech for Jake!

Maybe we need to start a "Carpooling to Mobile" thread so people can hook up and ride down together and take turns driving?

Freak,

I agree with your assessment in part. I can't really take the approach of "money is no object", but me and the lad swung it once, we could do it again.
But the problem is, much the same way as your other point, is that I'm not going alone. The simple fact is that kids go back to school on what is tantamount to the return trip day of the GMAC. If Logan can't go....it's just not fair to leave him home and hope to justify a solo $600-$700 proposition ( I haven't checked airfare, but that was pretty much the tab last time for Mobile).
After all he has done his share too, went to the games, froze his arse off from team walk to on-the-field-post game antics, screamed himself hoarse, etc. He deserves to go, but GMAC just isn't in the cards.
I'm really hoping for the International Bowl because: a.) we'll travel better as an alum/student contingent b.) as much as people tout the flora and fauna of Mobile - Toronto has a lot to offer, c.) a noon saturday game probably will hold more in audience for national exposure, d.) assume less travel expenses for BG's programs that go ETC ETC
There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!

Be fair to the family? I must live in a different world. I'd dump my family in a heartbeat to go to a game. As a matter of fact, I have! They bore me when we travel. :D

JSwoop,
I agree with everything ya said. The boys do have school the next day...that is tough to sell. I want to get down to Mobile in the worst way, IF BG plays there, simply from what everyone said of our game in 04. I was checking airfare from Akron/Canton into Pensacola and it was pretty reasonable. But my commish check just got eaten up by car and home repairs and I refuse to put everything on a credit card. We have enough debt we're trying to pay off...I can't justify charging now and the pain of paying later.

But to leave them behind so I can go? My heart won't allow that for all the reasons you stated...they deserve to go too.

Toronto or Detroit? We'll be there. Mobile? I'm afraid it won't happen this time, either. That sux!

I will root for Miami to beat CMU...and maybe MU will go to Mobile.

Mobile a no go

Post by KeyWestParrot »

Being unemployed at the moment it would be highly unlikely I could make the trip to Mobile. I could swing Detroit and Toronto but I highly doubt I could Mobile.

Don't care much for flying so driving would be best for me.

Mobile....about 14 hour drive
Detroit...about 1.5 hour drive
Toronto...about 5 hour drive

I'm pushing for Toronto cause I've never been there but that is for selfish reasons as well.

I'm also pushing for Toronto/Detroit. I could probably make those trips, no way I could make it to the GMAC. Personally, I'm hoping for Toronto, just because I've never been there and it would be a fun road trip.

I think for our guys the GMAC is probably the best bet, though, so I'd be pretty happy for them and just watch the game on TV. That town seems to treat the bowl like an event more than Detroit does, cannot really say about Toronto though.

Selfishly, I'd prefer Toronto; but for the guys I hope they get the GMAC.

I couldn't make Mobile or Detroit. Toronto would be sweet, and it would give us the most high-profile team to match up against.

We'd have a better chance for a victory in Mobile though.

CMU is going to Detroit. I don't think any outcome in the MACCCCCC will change that.

Good point Hammb. In all my whining, I forgot about the kids that busted their butts to get to this point. If they get the GMAC Bowl, it would be great for them! They did all the work and deserve the best. Thanks for that post.

J4H you're correct, but as Schade pointed out elsewhere, the outcome of the Hawai'i/Washington came could change that!

To hammb's point ... boy, Mobile is just such a phenomenal experience for the players, staff, fans, etc. The town rolls out the red carpet! Agreed that it would be a great reward in that regard.

I've given this some thought and I think wriggling on your belly, naked would be the worst way to get to Mobile. Brings up some disturbing images for me but I certainly couldn't come up with a worse way. Oh, and some advice- start ASAP. :-D

Well, this ain't out of the question yet! I've had a pretty good sales month and would get another commish check at the end of December. I found some VERY cheap flights from Akron/Canton to Pensacola on the Air Tran Website. And, they have a "Bill me later" feature where I can pay up to 90 days later. I just may be able to pull this puppy off yet. This month's commission is gone but since the game isn't until the first weekend in Jan....SHEET. Mrs. Freak said it would be OK for me to go alone but I'd like her to go and make it a getaway weekend. :-D

Let's see how this plays out... ;-) Right now, things look a lot better than this AM>

Fly Skybus out of Columbus, Ohio on 1/2/08 to Biloxi, MS and back to Columbus, Oh on 01/07/08 for $110.00 not bad.

Hour away from the game.

Little casino action to pay 4 the trip
game
home.
PRICELESS

I wouldn't advocate "casino action to pay for the trip" or anything for that matter. You'll probably end up losing more of your cash than you would have initially spent. Unless you're one of those card-counter people in blackjack or just damn lucky on the slot machines, then it doesn't matter.
