yea he is...but what if Arkansas comes knocking, or UCLA or any of schools in "Bowl system Conferences" that have cash, 900k is a lot of dough, BG can not compete with that..now if were offered that at another good school and turned it down..we would know he was nuts...NIZThe Niz wrote:I don't think Brandon is going anywhere. I think anyone who says anything less than a M.A.C. championship should get him fired is off the reservation. Soon to be three bowl wins, a pretty good career record. Guy obviously cares a lot about this school and its football program. Despite his flawes, the guy is a keeper.
How will you feel when Brandon is gone?

I am a little confused here, The question is how would you feel when Brandon is gone. Answering that and that only I will be very happy. I think that we win games because of his recruiting and in spite of his coaching. A coach better in game management with Brandon's players could be unbelievable. Urbanesque. Every criticism of Brandon during the losing streak is still evident during the winning streak. He has not learned anything new, the offense just settled into itself. Things slowed down for Tyler, A-train found a spot and the defense improved. I think I would be foolish to say that Brandon had nothing to do with this, because certainly he did, however all of these things could be cured by repitition. I don't think Brandon is a horrible coach, I think as HAmmB said that he is our Lloyd Carr. For that reason I hope he is given an opportunity and moves on. BG is better for having had him here but there are better coaches out there for BG now. Someone who can keep the offense in tact, keep recruiting well, and improve the Defense.
I must applaud Brandon for 3 things in particular. If there was a GM of college football he might be one of the best. Beyond recruiting he did the following three things that were brilliant.
1) Move O'D to DT. Who moves a starting TE to DT. And who moves them in and then starts them and has them play well. Lots of credit go to both the players and the coaches here.
2) The Anthony Turner experience. In the face of several injuries at RB coach always made the right move. Ransom and Geter fit this offense better so he put them in. Turner bounced around and has now hopefully found a Kordell Stewart like slash role. Bullock was benched with what seems like good reason. Macon was brought back at the perfect time. When I think about next years backfield I think of LSU. With 3 RBs who can basically easily translate into slot receivers we are going to see a lot of movement. And we also have the bruiser to go with them.
3) The kicking situation. He realized the error in his thinking, admitted it, and got experienced guys instead of freshmen.
I can live with Coach Brandon and 9 win seasons, I think for attendance and game management purposes we are better off with an Urbanesque leader and game manager.

Who does this? A coach that doesn't use a TE in his offense. I wouldn't give him too much credit for this move. O'Dro would have stood on the sidelines for 95% of the offensive plays if he wasn't moved to DT.Globetrotter wrote:1) Move O'D to DT. Who moves a starting TE to DT. You people never cease to amaze me...here we are just a few days after a victory over our most hated rivals and perhaps mere hours from hearing that we are the FIRST choice for a bowl bid from the conference and you folks are all but pushing the coach of this team out the door.
I don't know what is wrong with some of you folks but you honestly appear to enjoy complaining about the negatives far more than you do celebrating the positives.... You're some silly sons of bitches.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
I'm not pushing him out the door, not this year.Flipper wrote:You people never cease to amaze me...here we are just a few days after a victory over our most hated rivals and perhaps mere hours from hearing that we are the FIRST choice for a bowl bid from the conference and you folks are all but pushing the coach of this team out the door.

The team definitely outdid my expectations, and showed some moxy by reeling off 4 straight victories to finish the year.
Brandon, to me, has earned the right to return next year and attempt to win a MAC championship with his guys. The talent level will be there for that run next year, and nearly all of them will have at least a year of starting under their belt. We get Miami at home, and they should be the second best contender for the East. Next year really points to a legit shot at a title run. This year's performance, IMO, has earned Gregg Brandon the chance to make that run.

All of the problems with his teams are still consistently there. Bad attendance and bad game management.hammb wrote:I'm not pushing him out the door, not this year.Flipper wrote:You people never cease to amaze me...here we are just a few days after a victory over our most hated rivals and perhaps mere hours from hearing that we are the FIRST choice for a bowl bid from the conference and you folks are all but pushing the coach of this team out the door.

Urban Meyer came in and made it a priority to increase fan support. The coach can absolutely help with attendance1987alum wrote:Attendance?Globetrotter wrote:All of the problems with his teams are still consistently there. Bad attendance and bad game management.
I suppose he's responsible for the mediocre food at the concession stands, too.
Yes. HELP. But you can't pin low attendance on him. It's not like Brandon is some inaccessible hermit. He's about as personable a coach as I've met, and Lord knows I've met more than my share.Globetrotter wrote:Urban Meyer came in and made it a priority to increase fan support. And Meyer had to focus on fan support, since the entire program was in the dumpster when he arrived.
What, in your experience with Brandon, makes you think he's fallen short in increasing fan support?
I refuse to put any blame on attendance at the coach's feet. That's just stupid, IMO.Globetrotter wrote: All of the problems with his teams are still consistently there. Bad attendance and bad game management.
The game management was a LOT better the final 4 games this year. We unleashed a balanced attack that was nearly unstoppable. Our defense even showed a little ability the final 2 weeks. I still think our defensive fundamentals are ugly (again evidenced on the fumble by Parmele). But improvements in game management were pretty clear.
Like I said, I think Brandon showed enough this year to deserve a shot to win it all with HIS players next year. This will be the first time that we've had a team with enough talent to win the MAC and they're all his guys that he recruited. This year we were young in a lot of areas. Next year we'll be veterans almost across the board. A MAC title is the expectation, and I think it's only fair to allow the man that put this together to get a shot at finishing it.
Personally, I agree that he still has flaws, and I don't necessarily yet believe he's capable of doing it, but I do think he's earned the chance to. Essentially the final four weeks of this season were him interviewing for his own job, IMO. He passed that interview and deserves another shot with legit championship quality team.
Very well said!!! you go FlipperFlipper wrote:You people never cease to amaze me...here we are just a few days after a victory over our most hated rivals and perhaps mere hours from hearing that we are the FIRST choice for a bowl bid from the conference and you folks are all but pushing the coach of this team out the door.

I agree with you, I overstated it in my simplicity. They are certainly two different things, he is absolutely not the cause of it but I don't see him doing the visible things that Urban did when he was there. That could absolutely be a product of me no longer being on campus. If you say he is personable does that also necessarily mean he is accessible? I just don't see him going to local groups and speaking like Meyer did. I don't see him making it a priority like Urban did. Then again I am not there. The best scenario for us is for Brandon to stay and grow as a coach and for the things that we discussed needed improvement to improve. I want a coach that can help with attendance and who does a better job of making adjustments in game and stressing the fundamentals. Where the team was in 2006 to where it is now is an amazing shift. But the team is still inconsistent.1987alum wrote:Yes. HELP. But you can't pin low attendance on him. It's not like Brandon is some inaccessible hermit.
