It's the GMAC ~ Toledo Blade

Interesting, but Ryan never cites what his source is other than speculation. If it really is GMAC, mark me down as a no-show.
Check out our new BGSU hockey site: http://www.bgsuhockey.com
As someone who spent (too) many years reporting and editing this type of material, I'm willing to bet that one of these two scenarios played out last night:
1) Modarelli pretty much told Ryan that a BG invite was all but a done deal, but did that "off the record." Ryan then bounced the conversation of the BG athletic department, GC in particular, and forged ahead. Who confirmed it, again "off the record," leaving Ryan to finesse the story as he did.
2) Ryan got lazy and took a very brief phone call from Modarelli and slapped together what he assumes to be the most likely scenario based on conjecture and other publications' bowl projections.
All in all, the GMAC is the safest bet right now.

Please the Internation Bowl...
That is what I'm hoping for. It gives us the best chance of bringing a good contingent to the game. I not so sure we send a good crowd to Mobile.

We already have sent a good crowd to Mobile. A very good one.Falconboy wrote:That is what I'm hoping for. It gives us the best chance of bringing a good contingent to the game. I not so sure we send a good crowd to Mobile.

Sadly, I agree with Falconboy. The timing of this game virtually ensures that no students whatsoever make the trip. Also, seeing as much of our alumni base evidently still thinks we stink via less than stellar attendance outside of the Toledo game, I highly doubt they will travel like they did in 2004.Bleeding Orange wrote:We already have sent a good crowd to Mobile. As teachers who's first day back (in Kansas) is the day after the GMAC bowl, I can almost assure you that this'll be had on TV for my wife and I. We were at the last game in Mobile, but the schedule does NOT help with the travel. Sorry GMAC.bgsufalcon24 wrote: The timing of this game virtually ensures that no students whatsoever make the trip.

Aw, give me a friggin' break people. Everyone said the same thing in 2004 when the game was on December 23. Back then, "no one wanted to travel on Christmas Eve" to get back home. As it turned out, we had a damned good crowd down there anyways. Maybe it's just the nature of being a BG fan, but all of this damned pessimism has to stop at some point. It is exhausting.
Not to sound like a jerk, but stop whining about it. People will find a way to make it work. We all want to see BG play, and we all want to experience the GMAC Bowl if we get the opportunity - trust me.

I'd love to go, as would a lot of students, but the fact is that if students skip the first day of classes, they are automatically dropped from those classes due to first day attendance policies. If I skip, I lose my assistantship for sure. There in lies the reason why students can't travel, unless they drive all night back and attend classes on no sleep.

A vast majority of them do. Granted, you will have students that will go to the game and try to argue their case as to why they had to miss classes, but as a teacher myself, I'm not going to sympathize with them too much. That's like the students that argue that they shouldn't get a zero on the quiz they missed because it was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Um...you have class, I have to be there, so you have to be there, too.
