I refuse to put any blame on attendance at the coach's feet. That's just stupid, IMO.

What has he done to try to improve this?

this is horrible Coach Brandon is not going anywhere, anywhere except to a bowl game, and winning it, and then back to the sebo center to get ready for next year
At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing is reason enough to celebrate..

Amen, brother. The man can't win on this site....no matter what he does. I hope he stays at BG a long time.

Flipper wrote:You people never cease to amaze me...here we are just a few days after a victory over our most hated rivals and perhaps mere hours from hearing that we are the FIRST choice for a bowl bid from the conference and you folks are all but pushing the coach of this team out the door.

I don't know what is wrong with some of you folks but you honestly appear to enjoy complaining about the negatives far more than you do celebrating the positives.... You're some silly sons of bitches. :-)

Amen, Flipper. In the context of BG fandom, it's small but vocal minority. Just over 900 people have simply viewed this thread, yet there were 20,000 fans at the Toledo game and tens of thousands more watching on TV.

We just went 8-4, have the best record in the league, pounded our biggest rival on national television and are awaiting to see which bowl we are going to.

Half of the teams in this conference would be celebrating wildly while the other half would be busy erecting a statue of Coach Brandon outside of their stadium.

I don't think he is on many short lists for any job at the moment, he's not an A List candidate. The view that he was riding Urban's coat tails the first few years, had a losing year last season, didn't win the MAC this year, and we still have no idea what the bowl game might bring, takes him down a few notches. But he is 8-4 on paper, likely to see a third bowl bid, and works DIRT cheap.

He has declared his intent to preempt talk of letting him go next year with his talk of an extension during this off-season. To be honest, I'm amazed at how cheap this guy works. He makes for an easy buy-out option for somebody's program. I don't think he's worth $225,000 a year (base, and basic incentives) but then my view on him is generally understood here. That he'll be back next, shouldn't be taken as a "he decided to stay" as much as "he didn't have anyplace to go." I think it is a really insane idea to start with the "he'll stay because he loves us" crack.

In any case, the season is not over, and this topic ought to die until the off season, so people that don't want to read the annual "play-off vs. bowl system" debate have another thread to read.

I'd be happy to push his ass out the door. You all think he is god because he beat a bunch of terrible teams this year. Only W. Ky had a winning record and look who they played. He can recruit, but he can't coach and deserves to be courted by Duke. Damn! I'm sure I offended Flipper with this post.

I would say the coaching looked pretty damned good against Buffalo and Toledo to end the season. Perhaps he is growing as a coach? Oh! You'll have to forgive me. I completely forgot that football coaches are the only human beings that don't grow intellectually. DUH!

I'm not a Brandon ass kisser. Ask anyone around here - I've had my share of gripes about the job the Coach B has done over the past few years, but I'm willing to give the man some damned credit. Even Hammb and J4H, two of Brandon's biggest detractors on this board are willing to do the same. I guess it just amazes me that someone could be so short-sighted as to overlook the good things anyone has done and focus only on the bad.

What exactly is a "Brandon ass kisser" anyhow?

And yet I'm the only one who swears on this message board...

More on the topic, I don't think Brandon can really make a good case to go elsewhere at this point in time. One more really good season might get him somewhere, but right now that decline from 2003 to 2006 makes it look like he wasn't winning with his own recruits. That looks bad to other schools looking for coaches. If we do win the MAC next year then he will certainly be a candidate for a BCS school methinks.

2003 to 2006? Do you mean "decline from 2005-2006?"...I really don't see much of a decline from 2003-2004....

and bobio you don't offend me...you're obviously insane and no longer have the control over your thoughts and actions that a sane person enjoys.
